Patent number: 9966687Abstract: A connector is provided which has a housing and a terminal position assurance (TPA) member. The housing has a base which includes a first side, a second side and a top surface that extends between the first and second side. The base further includes a channel. The TPA member extends from the top surface of the base. The TPA member has a hinge that substantially extends from the first side to the second side of the base. The hinge extends from the top surface and connects the TPA member to the top surface. The TPA member includes a rear edge that is configured to rotate approximately one-hundred eighty (180) degrees so as to press against the base. The TPA member includes a pushing flange that extends past the rear edge. The pushing flange is configured to be inserted into the channel.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2016Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: Molex, LLCInventors: John Luthy, Steven Sousek

Patent number: 9954301Abstract: A connector has a housing and a TPA member. The housing has a base which includes a first and second sides and a top surface that extends between the sides. The base further includes a channel. The TPA member is operatively associated with the housing and has at least one hinge which extends from the top surface. The at least one hinge has top and bottom portions. The bottom portion is provided proximate to the base and the top portion has a portion thereof cutout to provide a weakened portion of the at least one hinge. The TPA member further includes a rearwardly extending L-shaped feature. Upon a force being applied to the TPA member, the at least one hinge is configured to first rotate about the weakened portion and, thereafter, is configured to rotate about the bottom portion, thereby allowing the L-shaped feature to be inserted into the channel.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2016Date of Patent: April 24, 2018Assignee: Molex, LLCInventors: John Luthy, Steven Sousek, Timothy R. Gregori

Patent number: 9490568Abstract: A connector is provided with a terminal position assurance (TPA) member that secures a terminal within a channel provided in a base. The TPA member can be secured to the base with a hinge that extends substantially a width of the base. The TPA member and the base can be formed as a one-piece molded part.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2014Date of Patent: November 8, 2016Assignee: Molex, LLCInventors: John Luthy, Steven Sousek

Publication number: 20050282421Abstract: An electrical connector system includes a panel having a front face, a rear face, a hole through which a connector can mate with a complementary connecting device at the front face of the panel, and an opening spaced from the hole. A connector includes a dielectric housing insertable into the hole in the panel and mateable with the complementary connecting device at the front face of the panel. The housing mounts a plurality of terminals and is sized smaller than the hole to allow for controlled floating movement of the connector relative to the panel. At least one locking arm projects from the housing and has a locking protrusion for engagement in the opening in the panel to prevent excessive movement of the connector in a direction generally parallel to the panel. The opening is larger than the locking protrusion to allow for said controlled floating movement of the connector relative to the panel.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2004Publication date: December 22, 2005Inventors: Yan Margulis, John Luthy, Karen Samiec

Publication number: 20050239317Abstract: An electrical connector is provided for mounting on a printed circuit board which includes a mounting surface, an opposite mating surface, a locating hole and a terminal-receiving aperture. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a front board-mounting face for mounting against the mounting surface of the printed circuit board. At least one terminal-receiving passage in the housing has a front opening in the front board-mounting face of the housing, with the front opening alignable with the terminal-receiving aperture in the printed circuit board. An alignment boss projects from the front board-mounting face of the housing and is insertable into the locating hole in the printed circuit board. The alignment boss has a guide hole for receiving a guide post from a complementary mating connector at the mating surface of the printed circuit board.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2004Publication date: October 27, 2005Inventors: Yan Margulis, John Luthy
