  • Patent number: 11306954
Abstract: A valve system includes a motor, a first valve, a second valve, and a controller. The first valve is connected to the motor shaft and is rotatable to an open position, in which fluid flows through a first channel, and a close position, in which fluid is prevented from flowing through the first channel. The second valve is connected to the motor shaft and is rotatable to an open position, in which fluid flows through a second channel from a first end to a second end, and to a close position, in which fluid is prevented from flowing through the second channel. The controller is connected to the motor and can sequentially actuate the first valve and the second valve to create at least a first, second, third, and fourth position.

  • Patent number: 10006664
Abstract: Disclosed are exemplary embodiments of apparatus and methods for slow-opening and fast-closing of a gas valve. In an exemplary embodiment, a gas valve generally includes an inlet, and at least one bi-directional metering orifice configured to discharge gas from the inlet in a first direction in the gas valve to provide a slow opening of the gas valve, and to discharge gas in a second direction in the gas valve to provide a fast closing of the gas valve.

  • Patent number: 9080769
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for a heating appliance that includes a manually-opened pilot valve that is held in an open position when a sufficient voltage is applied to a valve operator, and a thermocouple that converts heat from a pilot flame into a voltage that is applied to the valve operator. The apparatus includes a voltage measuring circuit that provides an output indicative of a magnitude of the voltage generated by the thermocouple, and a light emitting device. A controller is coupled to the voltage measuring circuit and the light emitting device. The controller is configured to establish, based on the output indicative of the magnitude of the voltage generated by the thermocouple, a switch sequence for switching the light emitting device on and off in a flashing manner, to provide an indication of when the magnitude of the voltage is sufficient to cause the valve operator to hold the gas valve open.

  • Publication number: 20130276722
Abstract: According to various aspects, exemplary embodiments are disclosed in which thermal insulation is used to provide a thermal break and/or thermally insulative barrier generally between a body and flange assembly of a gas water heater control. An exemplary embodiment of a valve assembly for a water heater generally includes a flange, a body, and a thermal insulator. The thermal insulator is configured for placement generally between the body and the flange. The thermal insulator has a lower thermal conductivity than the flange and the body. The thermal insulator is operable for inhibiting heat loss from within the storage tank through the valve assembly.

  • Patent number: 8132309
Abstract: A clamping apparatus is provided that includes a first clamp component having a center portion, and a first set of flexible fingers and second set of flexible fingers disposed on opposing sides of the center portion. The first and second sets of flexible fingers extend angularly in a direction towards the center portion such that the first set of flexible fingers extend in a generally opposing directions from the second set of flexible fingers. The clamping apparatus includes a second clamp component having a center portion, and a first set of flexible fingers and second set of flexible fingers disposed on opposing sides of the center portion. The first and second sets of flexible fingers extend angularly in a direction towards the center portion such that the first set of flexible fingers extend in a generally opposing direction from that of the second set of flexible fingers.

  • Publication number: 20030177818
Abstract: An apparatus that operates to detect the presence of a water leak in a gas water heater, and to automatically shut off both an electrically activated water supply valve and a gas shut off means in response to the detection of the leak. The apparatus comprises a float activated electrical switch positioned in a water collection pan located in close proximity to the bottom of the water heater, to control activation of an electrically operated valve for shutting off the supply of water to a gas water heater. The apparatus further comprises a gas shut off means for shutting off the gas supply in response to closure of the float activated electrical switch.
