  • Patent number: 4932703
Abstract: A bed extension for a pick-up comprising a load-carrying beam substantially parallel to the rear of the truck bed supported outwardly of the truck bed by means of suspension cables. The suspension cables are attached to the load carrying beams at one end and to a rigid member of the truck body or frame at the other end and pass over vertical stakes which fit into existing or installed rear stake compartments of the pick-up. The load-carrying beam is stabilized by truss members which are secured at one end to the load-carrying beam and at the other end to the rear bumper or rear bumper support. The bed extension is removable or collapsible and is compactly secured together in its disasembled condition so as to be easily stored.

  • Patent number: 4852601
Abstract: A self-actuating drip valve for attachment to a standard outdoor faucet for the prevention of freezing of such exposed faucets and water pipes leading to the faucet. A tube includes a collar at one end for securing to the end of the faucet. A stem extends within the tube so as to be adjacent the faucet. One or more ports extend between the faucet and the interior of the tube. The distal end of the stem mates with an orifice through the distal end of the tube. The tube and stem have different coefficients of expansion, one being plastic and the other being metal. In practice, the tube is attached to the faucet, which is open, and is filled with water. When the outside ambient temperature drops, the tube and stem contract at different rates and the relative movement opens the orifice in the distal end of the tube so as to permit water to drip therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4809727
Abstract: A self-actuating drip for attachment to a standard faucet for the prevention of freezing of such exposed faucets and water pipes leading to the faucets. An elongated housing includes a collar for securing one end of the housing about the open end of the faucet. A tube extends from the collar and mates with a closure at its distal end. A stem extends within the tube from the closure and terminates in a tip which mates with an exit port extending through said collar. A compressible seal adjacent the stem closes the exit port between the collar and the interior of the tube when the ambient temperature is above freezing. The tube and stem are of different materials, one being plastic and the other being metal. Since the plastic and metal have different coefficients of expansion, a reduction of ambient temperature below freezing releases the seal and permits water to flow from the faucet through the tube.

  • Patent number: 4600644
Abstract: A polyester yarn having filaments with aperiodic varying shrinkage levels along their lengths, the filaments having within-filament and between-filament shrinkage C.V.'s of at least 10%. The yarn may be made by conventional melt spinning within a critical narrow range of spinning speeds wherein yarn shrinkage decreases rapidly with spinning speed. A greige fabric incorporating the yarn as filling is textured by shrinking the unrestrained fabric, then heating the fabric sufficiently to cause the yarn to elongate.

  • Patent number: 4437481
Abstract: A self-actuating drip valve for attachment to a standard faucet for the prevention of freezing of exposed water pipes. An elongated housing includes means for securing one end of the housing about the open end of the faucet. A valve seat is provided within the housing so that it is substantially adjacent to the faucet when the device is in use. Substantially concentric extendible walls extend between the elongated housing and a base plate. A valve stem, terminating in a valve tip, is secured to the base plate and extends within the extendible walls. The base plate may be adjusted by threadable means for moving the valve relative to the valve seat.

  • Patent number: 4011899
Abstract: A steel member, essentially rectangular in cross-section, having an aspect ratio greater than 2 having an adhesive coating on the surface thereof, wherein the reinforcing member is characterized by a tensile strength greater than 200 ksi and a microstructure of tempered martensite, bainite and mixtures thereof.A method is disclosed for making a steel member comprising the steps of slitting in coil form steel stock containing more than about 0.40% carbon, continuously heat treating the stock so as to obtain a microstructure of tempered martensite, bainite or mixtures thereof and then applying an adhesive coating to the stock.
