  • Patent number: 6761514
Abstract: A hollow mill tool comprising a shank portion and a plurality of radially spaced and axially extending tool posts integrally formed with and projecting from the shank portion. Each tool post has a longitudinal cutting insert mounting face and each mounting face defines a first plurality of axially extending serrations. A cutting insert is mounted on each mounting face and each insert has a second plurality of axially extending serrations defining a back face and intermeshing with the first plurality of serrations. A threaded fastener extends through a front face of each cutting insert and is received in each of the tool posts to securely hold each cutting insert against its tool post.

  • Publication number: 20030012611
Abstract: A rotary boring tool adapted to include a locator insert for precision positioning of cutting tips provided on multiple cutting elements or inserts is disclosed. The boring tool comprises a tool body, a plurality of replaceable cutting inserts and an insert locator. The tool body includes a first end having a shank portion and a second end having a plurality of cutter insert supports, a plurality of cutter insert recesses and an insert locator recess. The outside surfaces of the shank portion and the flat portions of the insert locator are jig ground to a 0.000 variance relative to a central rotational axis of the tool body. The insert locator is secured to the tool body at a base surface of the insert locator recess. The cutting inserts are secured to the second end of the tool body so that they contact base surfaces of the cutting insert recesses, first radially and axially extending lateral or side surfaces of the cutting insert supports, and the flat portions of the insert locator.

  • Publication number: 20010010785
Abstract: A tool interconnect structure includes a spindle adapter, a rotary cutting tool, and a lock mechanism securing the rotary cutting tool to the spindle adapter. The spindle adapter has a face with a short hollow tapered shank at the face. The rotary cutting tool has a face for engaging the spindle adapter face and a tapered recess at the face for cooperating with the tapered shank. The lock mechanism includes a pair of blocks having shoulders at their ends adapted to engage annular grooves within the hollow tapered shank and within the rotary cutting tool. The blocks have threaded apertures therethrough and a screw having oppositely threaded end portions extends through the apertures. Rotation of the screw causes the shoulders to engage with and disengage from the grooves.

  • Patent number: 5704741
Abstract: A valve seat tool assembly has a body adapted for selective rotation about a longitudinal axis. The body includes recesses that receive removable cartridges therein. Preferably, the cartridges have a cylindrical shank received in the recesses and carry cutting inserts on each cartridge. The cartridge and cutting inserts may be mounted in any of three desired manners, all of which advantageously permit axial adjustment of the cartridge relative to the body.

  • Patent number: 5683212
Abstract: A clamping assembly for a tapered hollow shank of a rotary cutting tool provides for ease of access to a tapered recess of the adaptor. The clamping assembly is designed for retention on the tool shank so that the adaptor recess remains open for cleaning purposes. The clamping assembly is actuated through a simple axial arrangement so that a throughbore can be defined through it for receipt of a reamer or to define a central coolant passage if desired.

  • Patent number: 5454667
Abstract: An adjustable cartridge assembly is provided for a cutting head of a machine tool. The cartridge fixes the back rake angle of the cutting blade so that mere radial adjustment is required to adjust the blade. Moreover, the cartridge includes a support portion that matingly receives the blade and provides support along three contiguous surfaces.
