  • Patent number: 10754145
Abstract: An apparatus may include an adjustable fluid lens that includes a deformable element and a fluid that is substantially transparent and that is contained at least in part by the deformable element. The apparatus may additionally include a sensor that detects a property of the fluid that indicates a viscosity of the fluid. The apparatus may further include a control element that regulates, based at least in part on the property of the fluid, a speed with which to apply a deforming force to the deformable element. Additionally, the apparatus may include an actuator that adjusts an optical property of the adjustable fluid lens by applying the deforming force to the deformable element at the regulated speed. Various other apparatuses, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20160333152
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for solid freeform fabrication, especially fused deposition modeling, as well as various articles made using the same, where the systems and methods utilize certain thermoplastic polyurethanes which are particularly suited for such processing. The useful thermoplastic polyurethanes are derived from (a) a polyisocyanate component, (b) a polyol component, and (c) an optional chain extender component where the resulting thermoplastic polyurethane has a crystallization temperature above 80° C. and retains more than 20% of its shear storage modulus at 100° C. relative to its shear storage modulus at 20° C.

  • Patent number: 9291046
Abstract: A well completion and related method are provided for formations susceptible to simultaneous production of oil and water. In one embodiment, two closely spaced, preferably horizontal wellbores are drilled from a single well into the reservoir. The reservoir rock surrounding one leg (typically the upper leg) is chemically treated to make it hydrophobic, whereas the reservoir rock surrounding the other leg is chemically treated to make it hydrophilic. Separate production tubing and a dual completion is installed in order to enable independent flow from each leg. Drawdown pressures in both legs are controlled to be sufficiently close to each other such that only oil flows into one leg and only water into the other. The water produced is re-injected downhole or brought to the surface.

  • Patent number: 4813174
Abstract: A lure container for holding a scented lure in an insect trap includes a basket formed by spaced apart webs defining a volume of space for enclosing the lure. The volume is a truncated conical section and the basket has a wide opening at one end of the section. Attached to a top peripheral edge of the basket is a lid that is hinged along one section of the edge. The opposite edge has a tab that extends outwardly for mounting the basket in the trap. The basket and lid are both formed by spaced apart webs and ends of the webs of the lid extend into space in the webs of the basket, to block the opening and confine the lure. The lure container or basket is placed in the housing of an insect trap wherein the basket is spaced away from all of the interior walls of the trap by the tab extending from the peripheral edge of the basket.
