Patent number: 10595904Abstract: A band clamp tensioning system that includes a tensioning instrument that has a hollow body with proximal and distal ends that define a longitudinal axis, and a travel slot, a tension tightening rod disposed co-axially within the hollow body, and a carriage assembly for receiving and tensioning a band, the carriage assembly disposed co-axially within the hollow body and having a center aperture through which the tension tightening rod is inserted, and a carriage that includes at least one channel for inserting a band, and a band securing mechanism. In use the carriage moves axially between proximal and distal ends within the slot along the exterior surface of the hollow body when the tightening rod is manipulated. The system also includes a clamp housing and a band that can be tensioned around bone with the tensioning instrument and secured to the clamp housing with a locking element.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2017Date of Patent: March 24, 2020Assignee: BAND-LOK, LLCInventors: Michael Albert, Randy Roof, Stuart Lindquist, John M Kapitan

Patent number: 9770268Abstract: A clamp housing assembly and method for providing stabilization as a bone anchor during an operation. The assembly includes a housing, a locking element and a band. The housing defines a longitudinal axis, a center recess, and at least one slot. The housing has two opposing arms extending from a base. At least a portion of the inside surface of each arm may be threaded and at least a portion of the outside surface of each arm may be planar. The locking element is positionable within the recess in a co-axial relationship to the housing. The band is sized for travel along a predetermined path defined in part by the at least one slot in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2016Date of Patent: September 26, 2017Assignee: BAND-LOK, LLCInventors: Michael Albert, Randy Roof, Stuart Lindquist, John M Kapitan

Publication number: 20150012041Abstract: A spinous process fixation assembly and method for securing adjacent spinous processes. The assembly includes one or more lateral plates engageable with one or more insertion plates, respectively. The one or more lateral plates may include a material collection zone for insertion of biologic material prior to implantation. One lateral plates may be rotatable with respect to an adjacent lateral plate. One lateral plates may be movable with respect to an adjacent lateral plate between an extended and a compressed position. A single fixation device may be used to secure spinous processes across two or more levels and promote distraction at each level.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 9, 2014Publication date: January 8, 2015Inventors: John J. Souza, John M. Kapitan, Greg Smith

Patent number: 5861003Abstract: An apparatus and a method for occluding an aperture within a body surface, including an occlusion bag having a proximal sac and a distal sac, a delivery catheter, a guide catheter, a super-elastic wire, a release mechanism and a delivery sheath. The method of the invention includes affixing the delivery catheter to the proximal sac and then inserting the guide catheter into the delivery catheter. The super-elastic wire is attached to the release mechanism and the wire, release mechanism, occlusion bag, guide catheter and delivery catheter are inserted into a delivery sheath for transport to the aperture. After delivery, the occlusion bag is placed within the aperture and the wire is deployed within the bag. The bag and wire are repositioned if necessary, and the release mechanism is activated to release the wire. The guide catheter, delivery catheter, release mechanism and delivery sheath are then withdrawn.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1996Date of Patent: January 19, 1999Assignee: The Cleveland Clinic FoundationInventors: Larry A.
