  • Patent number: 11921789
Abstract: An apparatus and method for training a search engine generates synthetic search arguments and target information that are provided to the search engine as training. A search argument simulator ingests product information and historical interaction data, determines relevant descriptors, creates compound descriptors, and creates candidate search arguments. A trainer checks the candidates against historical search arguments, identifies similar search arguments and determines likely search arguments that are used for training. An evaluator monitors search engine responses and triggers retraining of the search engine.

  • Publication number: 20240072599
Abstract: An electric power apparatus includes a main planar body having a circular opening that supports a brushless direct-current (BLDC) motor. The motor includes a stator, a rotor, a motor spindle extending through the circular opening, a first end cap formed on a first side of the stator and mounted on the main planar body; and a second end cap formed on a second side of the stator and secured to the first end cap to form a substantially watertight seal around the stator and the rotor. A ratio of a maximum power output of the motor when powered by at least one battery pack to a height of the motor as measured from an upper surface of the main planar body to a top surface of the motor is greater than or equal to approximately 34 watts/mm.

  • Patent number: 11847134
Abstract: An apparatus includes processing circuitry and a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processing circuitry, cause the apparatus to identify a plurality of components and a data flow that interconnects the plurality of components. The instructions cause the apparatus to determine a lineage of a record generated by the plurality of components based on the data flow. The lineage indicates the data flow from a first component to a second component of the plurality of components to generate the record. The instructions cause the apparatus to present, to a user, a visual depiction of the lineage of the record. The visual depiction indicates the data flow of a query through at least the first component and the second component of the plurality of the components to generate the record.

  • Patent number: 7389699
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for testing the shear strength of curved core material. The method comprises the steps of: (a) bonding one side of a test specimen of curved core material to a convex curved surface of a first support; (b) bonding the other side of the test specimen to a concave curved surface of a second support; (c) mounting the first support so that it is pivotable about a pivot axis; (d) fixing the second support to a rigid frame; (e) after step (a) through (d) have been performed, causing the first support to pivot about the pivot axis; and (f) during step (e), continuously monitoring a parameter that will manifest a change if and when shear induced in the test specimen causes a structural change indicative of failure of the test specimen. A linearly displaceable head is mechanically coupled to the first support in a manner such that linear displacement of the head is converted into pivoting of the first support.

  • Patent number: 7351010
Abstract: A method of salvaging a pipeline in a marine environment is disclosed. The method provides a frame having a perimeter that surrounds a pair of opposed cutting blades, the frame having a gate that enables the frame to be selectively placed around or removed from a section of pipeline to be cut. As part of the method, the frame is placed on a pipeline by first opening the gate and then closing the gate once the pipeline is in an opening that is at the center of the frame. The center opening is generally rectangular in shape once the gate is closed. The cutter blades are moved toward one another, preferably with one blade being the moving blade and the other being a fixed blade. The cutter blades move toward one another until they overlap. At the time that they overlap, the cutter blades are prevented from deflecting in a direction normal to the direction of travel by a pair of guide rails that trap the moving blade in between the fixed blade and the guide rails.

  • Patent number: 6696962
Abstract: Acoustic level sensing by creating, or failing to create, resonance in a tube having a free end. An acoustic transducer at one end of the tube injects sound at a frequency that could produce resonance, depending on whether the free end is open or closed. The drive to the acoustic transducer is then removed, and the sound decay in the tube is monitored to determine if resonance occurred. Based on that determination, a signal is produced that indicates whether a material has or has not closed the free end of the tube. Beneficially, the same acoustic transducer that produces the sound monitors the sound decay. To determine whether resonance has occurred, or to verify system operation, the sound decay at the possible resonant frequency can be compared to the decay at another frequency. Temperature compensation can be performed by attempting to produce resonance at a plurality of frequencies.

  • Patent number: 5819582
Abstract: Slow wave, time-domain reflectometer based point level sensors and instruments. Such sensors and instruments include a transmission line having an inner conductor, an outer shield that extends over that inner conductor so as to define a gap between the inner conductor and the outer shield, a dielectric material that fills the gap, except at a point, thereby defining a space, and an access opening for enabling a material being sensed to fill the space when that material is present. According to the invention the dielectric material has a permittivity substantially different from the material being sensed. Further included are a pulse generator for generating pulses on the transmission line, and a processing unit for determining whether the material being sensed fills the space. Beneficially the inner conductor is helically wound around a core, creating a slow wave transmission line.

  • Patent number: 5818241
Abstract: Moisture sensing apparatus that uses slow wave transmission lines. Such transmission lines include a helically wound inner core, a surrounding outer conductor, and a moisture bearing material between the inner core and the outer conductor. Preferably, the transmission line includes a moisture barrier that separates the transmission line into a sealed dry section and a wet section which is in moisture communication with its environment. The moisture sensing apparatus further includes a source of electrical signals on the transmission line, and a moisture sensing circuit, operatively connected to the slow wave transmission line, which senses the moisture content of the moisture bearing material from the velocity of the impressed electrical signals on the slow wave transmission line. Preferably, the velocity of the impressed electrical signals is obtained indirectly using a sing-around measurement technique.

  • Patent number: 5717337
Abstract: Time-domain reflectometry based measuring systems which include transmission lines having an inner conductor and a ground conductor, a pulse generator generating pulses on the transmission line, and a pulse circuit producing oscillation pulses from pulse reflections caused by disturbances, such as a material interface, within the transmission line. The oscillation pulses induce subsequent transmission line pulses, beneficially using sing-around. A peak detector detecting the peak amplitude of the reflections and producing a trip-point voltage for the pulse circuit may be included. Transmission lines having a wound inner conductor and one or more switched taps which are selectively shorted to the ground conductor may be used. The system oscillates with pulses at frequencies which depend upon the state of the switches. Those frequencies (or periods) can be resolved into a parameter which depends upon the position of a transmission line disturbance.

  • Patent number: 4755588
Abstract: The polymerization rate of a cyclic polycarbonate oligomer composition to linear polycarbonates is controlled by encapsulating a polycarbonate formation catalyst in a thermoplastic polymer which is soluble or stably dispersible in said oligomer compositions at elevated temperatures; blending the encapsulated catalyst with the oligomer composition under non-polymerization conditions; and heating the blend to a temperature at which polymerization takes place. Among the polymers suitable for encapsulating the catalyst are polyetherimides.
