  • Patent number: 6332785
Abstract: A high voltage electrical connector (50) interconnects sources of energy, such as transformers and circuit breakers, to distribution systems and the like via a high voltage cable (37). The high voltage electrical connector (50) includes an access cavity (58) providing access to the interior of the electrical connector. The access cavity (58) may be fitted with an insert plug (20) or an insert injection plug (120). The inserts (20, 120) include a conductive shield (36, 136) to reduce the possibility of electrical discharges from the inserts.

  • Patent number: 5427538
Abstract: A device electrically interconnects a high voltage cable to a bushing of a deadfront electrical apparatus or switchgear. The device comprises a feed-through bushing and a separate U-member. The U-member can be installed onto, or removed from, the bushings without having to disconnect the ground. A driver mechanism applies a force to the U-member at a location substantially midway between two parallel legs of the U-member for installing or removing the U-member without cocking of the legs. The U-member carries female contacts which are engageable with male contacts of the bushings.

  • Patent number: 5393240
Abstract: A load separable connection is provided, including a loadbreak elbow having a contact probe, and a bushing into which the contact probe is received in a tulip contact therein. An ablative insert, including a projecting lip extending over the outer circumference of the tulip contact at the end thereof, is provided within bushing. The insert helps extinguish arcs created during live connection of the elbow over the bushing, and also helps physically block the access of the arc to the bushing components surrounding the tulip contact.

  • Patent number: 4776089
Abstract: An installation tool for mounting a loadbreak reducing tap plug in a high voltage "T"-type connector of the type including a cable connector having a threaded opening, the plug having a threaded end adapted to be mounted in the threaded opening of the cable connector and a threaded bolt extending through the threaded end of the plug, the threaded bolt having a wrenching opening and being rotated by a wrenching tool for connecting the plug to a bushing, the installation tool comprising a shaft having a threaded end corresponding to the threaded opening in the connector and a threaded opening corresponding to the threaded bolt, whereby the threaded end of the installation tool can be mounted in the threaded opening in the connector, the threaded bolt can be mounted in the threaded opening in the installation tool, and the threaded end of the plug can be drawn into alignment with the threaded opening in the connector when the installation tool is backed out of the threaded opening in the connector.

  • Patent number: 4722694
Abstract: A connector for electrically connecting a high voltage cable to an electrical apparatus bushing with a threaded opening, the connector comprising a housing having a passage having one end formed to sealingly engage the bushing, and an electrically conductive cable connecting element positioned in the housing and extending partially into the first passage. The cable connecting element is adapted to be electrically connected to the high voltage cable. The connector also includes a bushing connecting member mounted in the passage and adapted to be rotated. The connecting member includes a body portion electrically connected to the cable connecting element, and a threaded portion connected to the body portion and adapted to engage the threaded opening in the bushing.
