  • Patent number: 5969099
Abstract: A peptide having growth factor type activity (mitogenic and agonist/antagonist for the EGF receptor) which is a TGF-.alpha. analog but contains a bicyclic Pro analog (for instance D-2-azabicyclo[2,2,1]heptane-3-carboxylic acid), an N-terminal Phe or Trp residue, and a disulfide bridge.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 1997
Date of Patent: October 19, 1999
Assignee: The Secretary of State for Defence
Inventors: Derek W. Anderson, John M. Mellor, Nigel G. J. Richards, Karen J. Sargood, David L. Turner, Ram P. Sharma, Donna E. Davies, Stephen G. Chamberlin, Audrey Richter
  • Patent number: 5264106
Abstract: An amperometric sensor comprises a working electrode, a reference electrode, an enzyme whose catalytic activity on a substrate results in electroactivity, and an enhancer compound which enhances the detected electroactivity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 18, 1993
Date of Patent: November 23, 1993
    Assignee: Medisense, Inc.
Inventors: Jerome F. McAleer, John T. Law, Richard A. Morris, Lesley Scott, John M. Mellor, Manus Dennison
  • Patent number: 4377453
Abstract: A liquid-phase electrochemical synthesis is possible wherein a desired charged intermediate would normally be undesirably immediately electrolyzed, by covalently trapping the charged intermediate onto particles of a sulphonated polystyrene, filtering off the liquid, and regenerating the polystyrene in alkali as exemplary to release and hydrolyze the intermediate. Hexamethylbenzene may be electrolyzed in acetonitrile to give, by this process, 1, 3-(2, 4, 5, 6-tetramethyl)-bisacetamidomethylbenzene.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 13, 1979
Date of Patent: March 22, 1983
    Assignee: National Research Development Corporation
Inventors: Alan Bewick, John M. Mellor, Bobby S. Pons
  • Patent number: 4304642
Abstract: Organic compounds having vicinal functional groups, such as amidothioethers and esterthioethers, are prepared by electrochemically oxidizing an organic disulphide, an organic diselenide, a hexasubstituted organic disilane or a tetrasubstituted organic hydrazine in the presence of an alkene and an organic nucleophile.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 10, 1980
Date of Patent: December 8, 1981
    Assignee: National Research Development Corporation
Inventors: Alan Bewick, David E. Coe, John M. Mellor, David J. Walton
