  • Patent number: 4880934
Abstract: A process for the preparation of 4-(2-hydroxyalkyl)-2-piperazinones and their substituted derivatives comprising reacting an N-hydroxyalkylalkylenediamine, e.g. 2-[(2-aminoethyl)amino]ethanol, or a hydrocarbyl substituted derivative thereof with an .alpha.,.beta.-dicarbonyl compound, e.g. glyoxal, an alkyl-substituted derivative of glyoxal or a glyoxal equivalent. Certain hexahydro-4-(hydroxyalkyl)-2H-1,4-diazepin-2-ones have been made which are new compounds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 5, 1988
Date of Patent: November 14, 1989
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Duane S. Treybig, John M. Motes

  • Patent number: 4783327
Abstract: A method of removing SO.sub.2 from a gas stream containing the same by absorbing the SO.sub.2 in an aqueous solution containing a 4-(2-hydroxyalkyl)-2-piperazinone compound or an alkyl or aryl substituted derivative thereof. These compounds provide an absorbent solution which is less subject to loss during the regeneration step and yet effectively remove the SO.sub.2 from the gas stream without interference from other associated gases.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 13, 1987
Date of Patent: November 8, 1988
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Duane S. Treybig, James L. Potter, Mark B. Jones, John M. Motes
  • Patent number: 4170591
Abstract: Metal salt complexes of aziridine and 2-alkylaziridines in solution isomerize at temperatures between 20.degree.-70.degree. C. to form aziridine dimer chelates. The chelates are biologically active compounds and are chemical intermediates in the preparation of free aziridine dimers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 9, 1973
Date of Patent: October 9, 1979
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
    Inventor: John M. Motes
