Patent number: 9189481Abstract: A customized, specialty-oriented database and index. of a subject matter area and methods for constructing and using such a database are provided. Selection and indexing of articles is done by experts in the specialty with which the database is concerned. A thesaurus allows indexing and search in accordance with terminology familiar to different anticipated groups of users (e.g. doctors, patients, nurses, technicians, and the like) by translating search terms to a standard and limited list of topics; a limited number of which are assigned to each document/article and allowing the topics most likely to be relevant to be found. The search can be conducted based on the most relevant topic found or sequential searches can be performed based on topics most relevant to individual search terms or combined search terms and the search results combined on the basis of common topic classifications to leverage the benefits of document classification.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2014Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Inventor: John M. Patent number: 8782050Abstract: A customized, specialty-oriented database and index. of a subject matter area and methods for constructing and using such a database are provided. Selection and indexing of articles is done by experts in the topic with which the database is concerned. As a result, articles are indexed in a manner that allows facile, rapid retrieval of highly relevant articles with few or no false positives with much reduced database maintenance cost through frugal limitation of number of documents in the database, number of terms in a Master Index, and number of codes assigned to each document. A thesaurus allows indexing and search in accordance with terminology familiar to different anticipated groups of users (e.g. doctors, patients, nurses, technicians, and the like). Key articles collections and rapid access to documents therein are also provided. Additional classifications may be applied to articles or documents and searched as an additional search criterion such as a potential use.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2011Date of Patent: July 15, 2014Assignee: Nelson Information Systems, Inc.Inventor: John M. Patent number: 6294042Abstract: A lined tubular assembly and a method and apparatus for lining an elongated tubular article to form the assembly. The lined tubular assembly has a metal tube with a non-metallic liner bonded to the internal surface thereof by a bonding agent. A non-metallic flanged end piece is secured to each end of the metal tube and has a first portion extending into the tube between the liner and the internal surface of the tube and a second portion covering the end surface of the tube. The method for producing the assembly includes introducing simultaneously into the tubular article both a tubular liner and a bonding agent for bonding the liner to the internal surface of the tubular article. The apparatus for producing the assembly includes an elongated liner installation device that simultaneously introduces the liner and bonding agent to the interior of the tubular article.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1999Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: Varco International, Inc.Inventors: John M. Patent number: 5509124Abstract: In a data processing system, an input output bus unit (IOBU) is connected to one end of an input output interface controller (IOIC) via an asynchronous bus. The other end of the IOIC is connected to a storage controller (SC) and an input output interface unit (IOIU) via a synchronous bus. The SC and IOIU are connected to a memory unit and an instruction processing unit. The asynchronous bus, which is comprised of three sub-buses and a control bus, conducts signals between the IOIC and an IOBU in an asynchronous "handshaking" manner. The synchronous bus, which is comprised of two sub-buses and a control bus, conducts signals between the IOIC and the SC/IOIU in an synchronous manner. The IOIC, interconnected between the synchronous bus and asynchronous bus, functions as a buffer between the faster synchronous bus and the slower asynchronous bus.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: April 16, 1996Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Donall G. Patent number: 5470111Abstract: A coupling assembly having an annular coupling with internal threads having a continuous plastic, corrosion-resistant coating. Opposed tubes are provided with a similar internal coating. The tubes have external threads inserted into the coupling with the internal and external threads being in threaded engagement. An annular gasket is provided of rigid material and is mounted between and in sealing engagement with opposed ends of the tubes within the coupling. The gasket has a continuous radial portion extending between the opposed ends of the tubes and in spaced apart relation thereto. O-rings are in sealing engagement with the tubing ends and the continuous radial portion of the gasket. A pair of opposed flanges extend from opposite sides of the continuous radial portion of the gasket and are in sealing contact with an interior surface portion of the tubes.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1994Date of Patent: November 28, 1995Assignee: Tuboscope Vetco International, Inc.Inventors: John M. Patent number: 5289723Abstract: A testing apparatus and methods for use with a tensile testing machine for simulating thermal, acceleration, and ignition pressurization loads upon a grain support system of a solid rocket motor during ignition. The apparatus includes a pair of antisymmetrically disposed L-shaped test fixtures within which is attached a test specimen. The test specimen is configured to simulate two propellant grain support systems. The grain support systems in the test specimen are antisymmetrically disposed, thereby permitting two specimens to be tested simultaneously by the application of uniaxial tension to the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1992Date of Patent: March 1, 1994Assignee: Thiokol CorporationInventors: James R. Patent number: 4954078Abstract: A spark igniter circuit is provided for igniting a flammable gas mixture in devices such as gas torches, lanterns, stoves and the like. A piezoelectric spark generator imposes a voltage on an electrically conductive circuit which is discontinuous in two locations for creating a pair of spark gaps in the circuit. The first spark gap eliminates the need of stripping insulation from a pair of wires and providing a connector therebetween and possibly enhances the effectiveness of a spark at the second spark gap for igniting the gas mixture.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1986Date of Patent: September 4, 1990Assignee: Newell Companies, Inc.Inventor: John M. Nelson
