Abstract: An elongated particulate material spreader hopper is provided for detachable mounting on the back end of a conventional sand/salt hopper truck to allow its use in summer for spreading of gravel and other particulate material in road building and resurfacing applications. Hydraulically powered screw conveyors are provided to distribute the material evenly across the full width of the spreader approximating a driving lane on a major highway. Doors or gates are provided to control the amount and width of the discharge of particulate material to the highway surface.
