  • Publication number: 20040000445
Abstract: A hydrostatic drive system for a mass transit vehicle includes an engine that drives a hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump circulates high-pressure fluid through a circuit to two slave motors disposed at each driven wheel. The slave motors include a shaft rotated in proportion to the flow of fluid to drive a driven gear disposed on an axle supported by the frame of the motor vehicle. The hydrostatic drive transmits power from the engine through fluid pressure circulated by a hydraulic pump to the slave motors through a circuit composed of tubes or hoses. The tubes or hoses require little space compared to an axle assembly of a prior art inverted portal axle system.

  • Patent number: 6501554
Abstract: In the context of a machine-vision system for inspecting a part, a method and apparatus to provide high-speed 3D (three-dimensional) inspection of manufactured parts. Parts are inspected to obtain dimensional and geometric information regarding such characteristics as sag or bow of subportions of the item, the angle of pitch, yaw, and or roll of one portion relative to another, heights of various formations on the part. In some embodiments, an array of height pixels is calculated, and regions of interest (ROIs) are located within the array, and the ROIs are used to determine characteristic geometries of the parts being measured. One measurement system includes a light source, an imager, and a computer. Light source provides projected patterned light on the object useful to obtain 3D geometric information about the object. The imager has a reception optical axis that intersects the object when the machine-vision system is in operation.

  • Patent number: 4684858
Abstract: An improved system is provided for accurately referencing the revolving motion of electric motors used as positioning devices, and is particularly applicable to the automatic positioning and repositioning of ground station antennas in the reception of satellite TV signals. The system utilizes the action of the positioning motor itself as a reference and involves the extraction and counting of variations in the form of pulses produced in the current within the motor as a result of pulses generated, during motor operation, by the commutation process. A low impedance source senses the motor current pulses and feeds them to an active lowpass filter which suppresses any high frequency noise produced during motor commutation. Peak following circuitry, including separate positive and negative peak detectors, detects and follows the positive and negative peaks of the motor current pulses and produces a pulsating output waveform which is proportional to the number of motor current pulses detected by the peak detectors.

  • Patent number: 4626862
Abstract: An elongated active element for an antenna has an internal resonator providing a high quality matching impedance. The internal resonator is formed by a pair of conductors including an outer conductor and a coaxial inner conductor that is connected to signal ground. The signal connection of the active element is made to one end of the outer conductor in the neighborhood of the ground connection to the inner conductor. The inner conductor is shorted to the outer conductor at approximately a quarter of a wavelength, plus an integral number of half wavelengths, from the signal and ground connections to provide a parallel-resonant condition complementing the series resonant characteristics of the radiation impedance of the active element. Preferably, the active element is approximately a quarter wavelength long, and may be lengthened or shortened to obtain a desired radiation resistance. The antenna is easily fabricated from a length of coaxial cable.

  • Patent number: 4352209
Abstract: A cable television up-down tuner includes a first frequency up conversion stage in which a first local oscillator, tunable over a wide frequency range, is coupled to a ring diode mixer having individual biasing networks in series with each diode. A combination high pass and low pass filter provides a bandwidth coupling of input signals to the mixer. An intermediate frequency amplifier couples the up converted signal to a second mixer. A fixed tuned second local oscillator down converts the intermediate frequency signal to a selected television channel frequency. The first local oscillator includes a printed circuit board transmission line resonator which is tuned by a varactor diode. The two local oscillators are positioned adjacent the corners of a quadrilateral housing and are isolated from each other by three wall-type shields.

  • Patent number: 3931579
Abstract: A signal recognizing television tuning system employing a varactor tuner and a channel number computer for supplying derived channel numbers and intrachannel fractions, based upon the local oscillator frequency, to a comparator which controls a ramp voltage source for the varactor tuner. A digital counter supplies a selected channel number to the comparator and the ramp voltage is changed until (1) equality exists between both derived and selected channel numbers and (2) the intrachannel fraction is within predetermined limits such that the system is tuned to receive only signals falling within a restricted frequency range. If no signal is recognized, the counter supplies a next adjacent channel number to the comparator. Signal recognition means stop further operation of the counter upon recognition of a signal within the restricted frequency range.
