  • Publication number: 20100251742
Abstract: An HVAC&R system is disclosed that utilizes energy-efficient valving. The valving controls the flow of refrigerant and may be adapted for evaporator or condenser applications, on both AC systems and heat pumps (as well as chillers and other refrigeration systems). The valving may provide simultaneous and individualized control of flow through individual coils or groups of coils for improved control of evaporation, condensation, defrosting and so forth. In some configurations a common sensor may be shared between individual coils or groups of coils and may provide sensed parameters to control circuitry for controlling the valving. Other configurations may include bypass valving to direct fluid around the flow control valving. In yet other configurations, a valve may be used to bypass tapped vapor around a heat exchanger functioning as an evaporator.

  • Patent number: 7809085
Abstract: A high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) receiver recovers high speed encoded data which are transmitted differentially over data channels of a lossy cable, along with a clock. Inter symbol interference, high-frequency loss, skew between the clock and data channels, and differential skew within a differential signal are compensated by analog circuits which are automatically tuned for best performance by observing the quality of the recovered analog signal. Oversampling is used to provide a 24-bit digital representation of the analog signal for determining the quality of the signal.

  • Publication number: 20100242409
Abstract: Biomedical devices, such as ophthalmic lenses, and methods of making such devices having a surface coating including at least one polyionic layer. A preferred method involves spray coating a polycationic material onto a core lens, rinsing and drying the lens, followed by spray coating a polyanionic material, rinsing and drying. The coating process may be applied a plurality of times to achieve a multi-layer coating on the lens surface. A particularly preferred embodiment is a contact lens comprising a highly oxygen permeable hydrophobic core coated with a 5 to 20 bilayers of hydrophilic polyionic materials.

  • Patent number: 7798774
Abstract: A turbine housing (13) for a radial flow turbine, particularly a turbine used in an exhaust gas turbocharger. The housing has a general volute shape with a substantially annular part extending around the turbine axis and an inlet duct (20) extending therefrom. The inlet duct (20) has a first wall facing part of the outer surface of the annular part of the housing, a pair of spaced webs (44) extending from the outer surface of the circular part of the housing to the first wall, the webs defining a valley (45) therebetween. The arrangement renders the housing stiffer and less prone to fatigue cracking.

  • Patent number: 7798639
Abstract: The present invention provides a medical device, preferably an ophthalmic device, more preferably a contact lens, which comprises a lubricious coating including a capping layer of polyvinylpyrrolidone and/or at least one layer of a lubricious coating material and one layer of a polyionic material having charges opposite of the charges of the lubricious coating material. The lubricious coating on the medical device of the invention has increased lubricity, preferably characterized by an averaged CoF of about 3.0 or less, increased hydrophilicity characterized by an averaged contact angle of about 80 degree or less, and increased bacterial adhesion resistance, while maintaining the desired bulk properties such as oxygen permeability and ion permeability of lens material. Such lenses are useful as extended-wear contact lenses. In addition, the invention provides a method for making a medical device, preferably a contact lens, having a lubricious coating thereon.

  • Patent number: 7796500
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for determining if an alarm originating from a component within a communications network impacts service of said network. One embodiment includes scanning a first data structure for faulty network components which may potentially affect network service, determining network components that are supported by the faulty network component, calculating a percentage of the network components indicating a fault, and determining if the percentage of the network components is above a threshold. If the percentage is above the threshold the faulty network component is determined to be service impacting. Finally, communicating to a second data structure that the faulty network component impacts service of the communications network.

  • Publication number: 20100228771
Abstract: Systems and methods for processing an index are described. A pulse in an inverted index refers to a group of items that do not occur in any other pulse in the index. When processing a query against an inverted index in which pulses are present, the query is processed against a single pulse. The end of the pulse is determined based on the characteristics of the pulse and the linked list nodes that comprise the postings lists from which the index was generated. In some embodiments, index updates are applied to the query result obtained from a single pulse to provide an efficient and up to date query result.

  • Publication number: 20100215763
Abstract: Alternative cellular energy pigments (ACE-pigments) are over-produced in response to various types of viral infections and to other pathological conditions. ACE pigments accumulate at the sites of disease and also in other regions of the body, including the oral cavity. ACE pigments are considered to play a significant role in the body's healing response to both local and system diseases. They appear to exist in a relatively inactive form in which they can fluorescence under ultraviolet (UV) light illumination, especially if stained with a suitable dye, such as neutral red. The present invention describes a method of using ACE pigments collected from the saliva (spittle) of patients for the purpose of activating the ACE pathway in a child with autism and in an adult with an active skin lesion caused by herpes simplex virus. The saliva containing the collected ACE pigments is placed onto a suitable material, such as a paper towel, stained with neutral red dye and induced to fluoresce using UV illumination.

  • Patent number: 7783589
Abstract: Systems and methods for improving indexing are described. In one exemplary method, a 2-level table is used to improve performance when searching an index. A first table contains a subset of more frequently occurring terms and a second and larger table contains terms that occur rarely, with the first table optimized for updating and the second table optimized for searching. The second table is searched only when a search of the first table is unsuccessful. Other methods are described and data processing systems and machine readable media are also described.

  • Publication number: 20100189849
Abstract: A method for maintaining produce in a near “just harvested” state during transport in a truck trailer by limiting the formation of Ethylene, scrubbing the atmosphere to remove any that does form, and by exhausting the atmosphere of any residual Ethylene. • Patent number: 7765213
Abstract: Systems and methods for processing an index are described. A postings list of items containing a particular term are ordered in a desired retrieval order, e.g., most recent first. The ordered items are inserted into an inverted index in the desired retrieval order, resulting in an ordered inverted index from which items may be efficiently retrieved in the desired retrieval order. During retrieval, items may first be retrieved from a live index, and the retrieved items from the live and ordered indexes may be merged. The retrieved items may also be filtered in accordance with the items' file grouping parameters.

  • Publication number: 20100183511
Abstract: Cancers are extremely heterogeneous in terms of the frequency and types of mutations present in different malignant tumors. Thus, it is likely that uniform clinical treatment is not optimal for all patients, and that the development of individualized therapeutic regimens may be beneficial. Multiple, unique small peptides bind to cell lines derived from different colon adenocarcinomas. Within two hours of contact, the colorectal cancer cells are able to transfer a 32P radioisotope from the small peptides to cellular proteins; the transfer occurs at a substantially higher rate than in the colorectal cancer cells than in cell lines derived from other cancers or from normal tissues.
