The cutting assembly includes a housing (12) adapted to house a roll of sheet material such as plastic wrap. There is provided a cutting surface (24) having a slit (28); and a slideable cutting arm (22) having a cutting edge (27) adapted for receipt in the slit (28) when moved along the slit (28) to cut the sheet material. The cutting surface (24) includes a high friction gripping surface (74) having a gloss finish for gripping the sheet material on the cutting surface.
