  • Publication number: 20060133359
Abstract: A switch enables a telephone to use one virtual circuit to connect through a packet switched network to any number of other telephones. The switch supports multiple network types, permitting, for example, the conversion of UDP and AAL5 data to AAL2 data. Multiple switches, each connected to several other switches by ATM virtual circuits, are used to form a telephone network. Each telephone connects to just one switch. When a telephone call is made, the call is sent to the associated switch, which then determines, based on destination, to where the call should be routed. The call is sent through the telephone network to the destination switch, which in turn sends the call down the one virtual circuit to the destination telephone. Header stripping using out-of-band signaling minimizes bandwidth wastage by not requiring the ingress and egress points of the packet-switched network to maintain a synchronized connection state that must be regularly validated and updated with state and error information.

  • Publication number: 20050072693
Abstract: A storage case (1) for a compact disc (2) comprises an outer shell (4) within which an inner carrier (5) for storing the compact disc (2) is slideable between an open and a closed position. The compact disc (2) is stored in a disc storing area (20) between a lower support plate (15) and an upper retaining member (19) of the inner carrier (5). Guide plates (25, 26) slideably guide the compact disc (2) into and out of the disc storing area (20). Resilient disc engaging clips (30) on a rear end wall (17) of the inner carrier (5) resiliently urges the compact disc (2) against corresponding abutment members (33) on the front end wall (16) for securing the compact disc (2) against sideward sliding from the disc storing area (20). The combination of the disc engaging clips (30) and the guide plates (25, 26) avoid the need for a central locating spigot for engaging a central opening of the compact disc (2).

  • Patent number: 6360255
Abstract: A mechanism and method for integrating a managed network with a network management system is described. The network management system is used to manage, maintain, and display information about one or more managed networks and network devices in them. Devices in the managed network are upgraded by connecting a browser to the network management system, describing devices in the managed network, and selecting appropriate upgrades. The mechanism and method verify that the upgrades can be successfully downloaded to the devices of the managed network. Intelligence about the managed network is automatically gathered, so that the user is presented with a display of only those upgrades that are pertinent to the user's managed network. In another aspect, the mechanism and method facilitate creation and submission to the network management system of problem reports that describe problems with devices in the managed network.

  • Patent number: 6295527
Abstract: Mechanisms for establishing and viewing groups of devices within a network of devices are disclosed. A filter mechanism is coupled to a database of information about devices in a network having multiple network devices such as switches and routers. The database stores a filter metadata table that describes criteria by which the information in the database can be filtered to establish groups of the devices. The filter metadata drives the presentation of a filter dialog that provides a set of filters and filter criteria that can be selected by a user. The filter mechanism receives a set of user-entered criteria, selected from among the filter criteria, that define a group of the devices. The filter mechanism constructs a Boolean query to the database based upon the user-entered criteria. The database provides a dynamic view of network devices that meet the user-entered criteria.

  • Patent number: 6243088
Abstract: A method and system are provided for allowing users to attach functionality to one or more panels in a panel sequence. The panel sequence may be presented to the user, for example, as a sequence of HTML pages that walk the user through the choices associated with a particular task. The functionality attached to the panel by the user may allow users to set on the panel, or access from the panel, user-specific information that indicates how the user should respond to the panel. Techniques are described for attaching the functionality in a conditional manner, so that the functionality is only attached o the panel when the panel is displayed in a certain context. Context information is passed from each panel in the panel sequence to the next to facilitate the determination as to whether the user-specified functionality should be displayed.

  • Patent number: 4682261
Abstract: A production control system is provided, especially for use in a works environment, in which a microsequencer controlled by a Z80 microcomputer board (MUXC) performs continuous high-speed scanning of a multiplicity of operator input devices (OIDs) located at the work stations of individual human operatives. The microsequencer is essentially a single-level pipelined microprocessor communicating with the OIDs via channels and sub-channels, each OID being connected to a respective sub-channel by a single twisted-pair cable. The cable lines are maintained at 24 volts d.c. to supply power to the OID, and the OID, which has a card-reader for reading bar code on cards or tickets passed through it by the operative, transmits data to its sub-channel, and hence the microsequencer, over the same cable by shorting out the two cable lines for short and long pulse periods.
