  • Patent number: 7889233
Abstract: This document discusses, among other things, systems and methods for receiving a local input video signal, processing the video signal, and providing a processed video signal to a local digital television display panel. A communications port includes an Ethernet or other communications network connector for allowing access to the video signal processing system by a remote device. This allows a remote user to remotely diagnose, debug, and even modify operation of the video signal processing system. In certain examples, this involves downloading a Lua script that can take partial or complete control over operation of the video signal processing system from resident instruction code. In certain examples, the video signal processing system includes pipelined image analysis or processing stages. Video signal data intermediate to such processing, or the processed video signal being provided to the local display can be communicated to the remote user.

  • Patent number: 7685360
Abstract: Methods and structures for appending metadata with recorded data in a dynamic mapped storage device. In a dynamically mapped storage device in which all user supplied logical blocks are dynamically mapped by the storage device controller to physical disk blocks, features and aspects hereof allow presently unused physical space to be used for storing additional metadata associated with recorded data. As the current capacity ratio of the storage device increases, appending of metadata may cease and previously recorded data including metadata may be re-recorded (migrated) to eliminate the appended metadata. The appended metadata may be used for enhanced diagnosis and analysis of characteristics of the operating storage device and may be used to restore the content of the storage device to an earlier state. The metadata may include, for example, track following position of the read/write head, temperature, head flying height, and time of day.

  • Patent number: 7620772
Abstract: Methods and structures for dynamic density control to improve reliability of a dynamically mapped storage device. In a dynamically mapped storage device in which all user supplied logical blocks are dynamically mapped by the storage device controller to physical disk blocks, features and aspects hereof provide for dynamically altering the recording density of user data stored on the storage device. So long as the physical capacity utilization of the storage device permits, new data stored on the device may be stored at lower density to improve reliability in reading back the recorded data. Further features and aspects hereof may reduce the recording density only for data deemed to be critical. Radial (track) density, longitudinal (bit) density, or both may be dynamically controlled to reduce recording density. As physical capacity utilization increases, data previously recorded at lower density may be migrated (re-recorded) at normal higher density.

  • Patent number: 7538962
Abstract: A media event timer includes a counter module for generating a sequence of counts based on a clock signal of a disk drive unit. A counter reset module sets the counter module to a reset count in response to a servo address mark detection signal. A detector module detects that a servo address mark has been missed and sets the counter module to a restart count when the servo address mark has been missed. A trigger module triggers a first media event when a first media event count compares favorably to a count of the sequence of counts.

  • Publication number: 20080086676
Abstract: Redundant information may be stored separately and contiguously with encoded user data such that all redundant information is co-located. Boundaries may be defined as to how error correction coding is processed such that redundant information may be corrected independently from encoded user data. By providing this ability many controller related issues are addressed and the propagation of errors and the effects thereof may be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20070226593
Abstract: Performing multiple Reed-Solomon (RS) software error correction coding (ECC) Galois field computations simultaneously in a RISC processor. A novel apparatus and a novel method are presented by which multiple Galois field computations are performed in parallel thereby speeding up the decoding processing and enhancing performance. Processor, memory, and plurality of adders and/or multipliers are implemented appropriately to allow parallel Galois field computations to be performed. Multiplexing can be perform to govern the writing of resultants (generated using the adders and/or multipliers) back to the memory via feedback paths. This approach allows for parallel (as opposed to serial) implementation of the software ECC corrections with minimal area and power impact.

  • Publication number: 20070198903
Abstract: Clocking Chien searching at different frequency than other Reed-Solomon (RS) ECC decoding functions. An efficient implementation allows for a fast clock signal to govern the operation of the more computationally and time-intensive portions of the error correction code (ECC) time budget. For example, at least one module and/or decoding function within the ECC decoding is governed by using a first clock signal, and at least one other module and/or decoding function (or all the other modules and/or decoding functions) is/are governed by using a second clock signal. In one implementation of Reed-Solomon (RS) decoding, the Chien searching function is operated using a faster clock signal than at least one other RS error correction decoding function thereby allowing for a significant reduction in area and power than other architectural trade-offs.
