  • Patent number: 6846432
Abstract: Methods and compositions for removing phosphate from swimming pool waters are disclosed. The compositions include both soluble and substantially insoluble lanthanide carboxylates, preferred examples being lanthanum glycolate and lactate. The methods include the addition of the lanthanide compounds to the bulk of the pool water, but preferably involve the loading of the pool filter with the composition and the circulation of pool water through the filter to effect the removal of dissolved phosphate in the water.

  • Patent number: 6789266
Abstract: A main body portion has interior and exterior surfaces. A centerline runs between the front and the back. A first side and a symmetric second side are formed. The front includes two convex edges. Stitching coupes the convex edges. The first and second sides each have first and second arcuate portions extending outwardly away from the centerline. The back includes a tail extending rearwardly away from the front from between the arcuate portions. A primary coupler includes first fasteners at the edges of the first arcuate portion on the interior surface. The first fasteners are remote from and generally parallel with the centerline. Second fasteners are provided at the edges of the second arcuate portion on the exterior surface. The second fasteners are proximal to the centerline. The first fasteners are adapted to separably couple with the second fasteners at any position along their lengths.

  • Publication number: 20040104167
Abstract: In a vessel containing a filter bed and containing a mixed liquor containing suspended solids, a system disturbs/dislodges a sludge mat that settles on the filter bed. Thus, the system controls the sludge mat on the filter bed that otherwise may blind the filter bed and significantly reduce or stop process liquid flow into and through the filter bed. The system helps maintain effective vessel effluent flowrates with reduced requirements for filter bed backwashing or other filter bed maintenance. The system includes a sludge mat dislodging member that moves along the filter bed surface, preferably on but substantially not inside the filter bed, to disrupt/dislodge the sludge mat and/or prevent formation of the sludge mat. Preferably, the dislodging member is carried inside the vessel on a moving arm or arms that rotate in a plane parallel to the filter bed surface. The preferred sludge mat dislodging member(s) hang from the rotating arm(s) to slide along the top of the filter bed through the sludge mat.

  • Patent number: 6689322
Abstract: The present invention includes free-standing, shaped ceramic-bearing bodies useful in fluid sensors, filters, and catalyst devices. The invention also includes methods and processes for using such devices. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, shaped metallic foils are converted into free-standing, porous rutile foils having an open pore structure by oxidation at an elevated temperature. The exposure of such foils to increasing concentrations of reducing gases such as carbon monoxide results in an increase in the steady-state electrical resistance. The resultant ceramic-bearing bodies may be used as effective sensors of reducing gas species in such applications as automobile and industrial emissions.

  • Publication number: 20030191648
Abstract: A method and system for error prevention and recovery of voice activated navigation through a menu having plural nodes provides situation dependent utterance verification by relating confirmation to utterance determination confidence levels. In one embodiment, a high confidence level results in implicit confirmation, a medium confidence level results in explicit confirmation and a low confidence level results in a concise interrogative prompt of a single word that requests the user to repeat the utterance. In situations where voice recognition is difficult, dual modality with DTMF navigation is provided as an option for menu selections.

  • Publication number: 20030156981
Abstract: Tablet and granules for treatment of pool water comprise at least one water-soluble sanitizer and at least one lanthanide compound (other than phosphate) compacted or otherwise formed into a physically coherent body. A matrix, carrier or binder adapted to dissolve and/or disintegrate over time in pool water may also be used. The sanitizer and lanthanide are dispersed within the tablet or granule so that, upon dissolution or disintegration of the tablet or granule, the lanthanide compound will be released. A method involves placing the tablet or granules in the flow of water to the pool filter so that, as the tablet or granule dissolves, the sanitizer is dissolved into the pool water and the lanthanide is carried into the filter where it is retained as a particulate solid that is effective in removing phosphate from pool water circulating in the filter and from whence it can be removed by backwashing.

  • Patent number: 6466940
Abstract: A system for automatically creating databases containing industry, service, product and subject classification data, contact data, geographic location data (CCG-data) and links to web pages from HTML, XML or SGML encoded web pages posted on computer networks such as the Internet or Intranets. The web pages containing HTML, XML or SGML encoded CCG-data, database update controls and web browser display controls are created and modified by using simple text editors, HTML, XML or SGML editors or purpose built editors. The CCG databases may be searched for references (URLs) to web pages by use of enquiries which reference one or more of the items of the CCG-data. Alternatively, enquiries referencing the CCG-data in the databases may supply contact data without web page references. Data duplication and coordination is reduced by including in the web page CCG-data display controls which are used by web browsers to format for display the same data that is used to automatically update the databases.
