    Abstract: A container includes a housing forming at least one chamber therein, a fluid conduit having a fluid opening extends into the chamber, and a fluid holding member is arranged within the chamber over the fluid opening. The fluid holding member leaves at least one air pocket within the chamber adjacent to the fluid conduit. When the fluid holding member is at least partially filled with a fluid it will have at least one wetted portion and at least one non-wetted portion. The wetted portion is fluidically coupled to the fluid conduit. The container also includes at least one feature within the chamber to provide an air passageway that allows air movement between the air pocket and at least the non-wetted portion.

    Abstract: An aerial electronic system for detection of surface and underground threats comprises an electromagnetic (EM) gradiometer flown aloft over the possible ground and underground threats to a convoy. The EM gradiometer is disposed in a Styrofoam torpedo shaped pod that is towed in flight behind an airplane. An illumination transmitter and loop antenna mounted to the airplane radiate a primary EM wave that travels down to the ground surface and penetrates beneath. Frequencies of 80 KHz to 1 MHz are selected according to whether the targets are laying on the surface or deeply buried. Detonation wire pairs, buried cables and pipes, and other conductors will re-radiate a secondary wave that can be sensed by the EM gradiometer. A reference sample of the transmitter signal is carried down a fiberoptic from the airplane to the towed pod. This signal is used in the synchronous detection to measure the secondary EM wave phase.

    Abstract: A dual beam receptacle terminal is shown having a generally box shaped receptacle contact where first and second contact portions are reversely bent from an upper wall to overlap within an interior of the receptacle contact. The first and second contact portions also extend in a cantilevered fashion from the upper wall. A spherical dimple is provided on the upper of the two reversely bent contact portions in the location of the overlapped portion. Contact stop portions are provided on the side walls of the receptacle contact portion which engage the contact stop portions on the receptacle sidewalls. A coverwall is provided overlapping the upper wall which forms a clean seam with the sidewall from which the upper wall extends.

    Abstract: A relatively simple and inexpensive method to increase the operational lifetime of semiconductor laser diode elements and light emitting diodes (LEDs) is disclosed. The semiconductor laser diode element is placed in contact with a non-electrically conductive, chemically inert liquid. Preferably the liquid is a perfluorinated liquid. This results in a dramatically increased operational lifetime for the semiconductor laser diode element by preventing damaging heat build up to vulnerable areas of the laser diode element, such as the p-n junction. This method can work with the liquid being either static or flowing. The disclosed method can be used when the semiconductor laser diode element is used either as a laser itself or when it is used to optically pump another lasing element. The liquid can also be in contact with the lasing element, collimating lens, sub-mounts, or thermoelectric coolers in a lasing assembly.

    Abstract: A refrigerator cabinet includes a shell having first and second laterally spaced, upstanding side walls that are interconnected by a top wall, each of the walls includes an in-turned front edge portion defining a liner receiving cavity. The shell further includes a mullion bar, which partitions the shell into first and second liner cavities, and a base member. Both the mullion bar and base member have respective liner receiving portions. With this arrangement, first and second liners are adapted to be inserted into their respective cavities and flexed such that three sides are inserted into the liner receiving cavities, while the remaining side is positioned against a land of the mullion bar or base member. Once in place, the liners are secured through a mullion bar cover and a base member cover. This construction combines the benefits of a front-load process with that of a flex-load process, lowering assembly time without the need to reinforce the liner.

    Abstract: A new ytterbium-phosphate glass and a method for producing the same are disclosed. The glass finds special use in forming laser glass. Previously the level of ytterbium that could be incorporated into a phosphate glass without leading to formation of crystals or devitrification was limited. It has been found that much higher levels of ytterbium can be incorporated if an initial glass melt is formed from phosphate and ytterbium prior to adding the other components. Using the present process ytterbium-phosphate glasses having up to 30 mole percent ytterbium can be created. The new glasses function as well and often better than previous ytterbium containing glasses as laser glasses especially when combined with one or more of the lasing ions erbium oxide, neodymium oxide, holmium oxide or thulium oxide.
