  • Patent number: 7571846
Abstract: A carton blank is used in a form, fill and seal machine on which a closure is directly molded onto the carton. The molding portion of the machine includes a tool set having first and second tool elements in which the first tool element has an aligning member extending therefrom in a direction transverse to a direction of loading the carton between the first and second tool elements. The aligning element has a predetermined shape having diverging surfaces. The carton blank includes a rear wall panel, a first side wall panel, a front wall panel and a second side wall panel. Each panel is separated from its adjacent panels by a vertical score line. A closure panel is adjacent the front wall panel, has an opening therein and is configured for having a closure molded thereon. The closure panel is partitioned from the front wall panel by a first horizontal score line. The closure panel has a closure panel fin panel extending from a side opposite the front wall panel.

  • Publication number: 20090033658
Abstract: A method and system for computer aided design (CAD) is disclosed for designing geometric objects. The present invention interpolates and/or blends between such geometric objects sufficiently fast so that real time deformation of such objects occurs while deformation data is being input. Thus, a user designing with the present invention obtains immediate feedback to input modifications without separately entering a command for performing such deformations. The present invention utilizes novel computational techniques for blending between geometric objects, wherein weighted sums of points on the geometric objects are used in deriving a new blended geometric object. The present invention is particularly useful for designing the shape of surfaces. Thus, the present invention is applicable to various design domains such as the design of, e.g., bottles, vehicles, and watercraft.

  • Patent number: 7313895
Abstract: A form, fill and seal packaging machine is configured to mold a closure directly onto a carton. The machine includes a carton erection station to receive and erect a carton and a direct injection molding station. The molding station has an internal mold tool for receipt of the carton, and an external mold tool set. The internal tool and external tool set are configured to receive and secure a portion of the carton therebetween and define a mold cavity with the portion of the carton disposed therein. The external mold tool set defines an opening for receiving a polymer injection system to inject polymer into the mold cavity. A closure is directly molded in place on the carton, with the polymer encapsulating the inner peripheral edge of the carton opening that is disposed within the mold cavity. The packaging machine also includes a filling station for filling the carton and a sealing station for forming a seal on the carton.

  • Patent number: 6965554
Abstract: A light beam encoded with data simultaneously reads out data stored in tracks on an optical disk and produces a reflected beam directed to a detector array. The data stored on the optical disk and the encoded data may be components of vector arrays. As the light beam illuminates the rotating optical disk, the data stored on the disk is multiplied by the encoded data. The products of the multiplication are encoded in the reflected beam. A multiplicity of data is read out in parallel from the optical disk and simultaneously correlated with the encoded data. This comparison or correlation operation is performed on digitally encoded data utilizing convolution, or with analog encoding. The present invention can be utilized in pattern matching.

  • Patent number: 6142169
Abstract: A gas supply system connected to vent a tank of a product filling system is set forth. The gas supply system comprises a high pressure/low pressure gas supply having a common outlet. The high pressure/low pressure gas supply is operable in a first mode of operation in which high pressure gas is supplied at the common outlet and a second mode of operation in which low pressure gas is supplied at the common outlet. A sterile filter having an inlet and an outlet is also provided. A steam supply system is disposed in-line between the common outlet of the high pressure/low pressure gas supply and the sterile filter. A tank valve system is provided having an inlet in fluid communication with the outlet of the sterile filter. The tank valve system also has first and second outlets and is operable in a first mode of operation in which the inlet is placed in fluid communication with the first outlet and a second mode of operation in which the inlet is placed in fluid communication with the second outlet.

  • Patent number: 5865010
Abstract: A carton filling machine comprising a compartmentalized clean air system for providing a downward unidirectional flow of clean air into a chamber that substantially encloses one of the machine stations is provided. Preferably, the machine station is a filling station. Even more preferably the clean air system encloses both the fill pipe of the filling station and a top folding portion of a top sealing station of the machine. The top folding portion of the top sealing station ensures that the carton exits the chamber in a closed state whereby the carton is maintained in a very hygienic state after it has been filled in a very hygienic atmosphere. The air flow is advantageously divided into plural streams, one of which is directed about the fill pipe to further ensure sterile filling conditions.

  • Patent number: 5822111
Abstract: A apparatus and method for coherently stretching or compressing signals of nterest, i.e. without loss of information. A first, or tapping, Bragg cell has an acoustic signal launched in it which is modulated onto a laser carrier. The signal of interest is launched into a second, or signal, Bragg cell, and is similarly modulated onto the carrier exiting the first Bragg cell. Upon demodulation, the resultant signal, is the convolution of the two acoustic signals in the respective Bragg cells, but whose duration is either stretched or compressed according to the relative velocity between the acoustic signals in the two Bragg cells, and by the magnification of optics between the two cells. If the signal in the first Bragg cell is of such a short duration that it is effectively an impulse, the resultant signal is a coherently stretched or compressed replica of the signal launched into the second Bragg cell, i.e. the signal of interest.

  • Patent number: 5791386
Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining the proper shape and orientation of a carton with respect to a fill pipe of a liquid packaging machine during a liquid-filling operation. The apparatus, internal carton guides attached to a fill pipe, are elongated fin-shaped members which are adapted to engage opposite corners of a carton. The internal container guides include tapered lowered edges which gradually direct the corners of the carton to the outermost edges of the guides. The uppermost edges of the internal container guides include stop members which serve to engage the top edge of the container and inhibit any further upward movement. The internal container guides securely maintain the container in a stable and properly-oriented position throughout the liquid-filling operation.
