  • Patent number: 4761023
Abstract: An improved telescoping joint suitable for use in repair of subsea pipelines including an inner tubular member, an outer tubular member for receiving the inner tubular member therein with an annulus between the members with seals establishing effective piston areas for extending the joint by causing relative extending movement between the members and relative retracting movement between the members, a pressure responsive locking piston for camming gripping elements into tight locking engagement between the members, and a pressure responsive piston and seal for providing a metal-to-metal seal between the members upstream of the extending piston area, the retracting piston area and the lock. Additionally a testing port is provide to establish the fluid tightness of the seal in the subsea location prior to the installation of the joint into the pipeline as a replacement for a damages section which has been removed.

  • Patent number: 4601232
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved device for locking reciprocating piston type fluid actuators in a desired position. The device includes a body, a piston having a lost motion connection to the body, a locking piston being movable with respect to the piston, an actuating cone supported on the piston, split locking cone elements surrounding the actuating cone and having a connection to the body, a split locking ring interconnected to the lock piston and surrounding the split locking cone elements, a housing containing the elements, a movable rod extending into the housing for engagement by said body, and means to supply fluid under pressure to the locking assembly, the application of pressure initially moving the locking assembly and when the rod is in its desired position for locking and further movement provides wedging locking of the structure in its housing bore and locks said rod in position.

  • Patent number: 4537250
Abstract: A ram-type shearing apparatus for a wellhead having a body with a vertical bore therethrough and aligned, opposed ram guideways extending outward in the body from the bore, a ram assembly in each of the guideways, each of the ram assemblies having a ram body with a shearing blade on the face of the ram and means for moving the ram inward and outward in the guideway, the cutting edge of the upper shear blade and the face of the ram assembly below the upper shear blade being concave to support the string during shearing sufficiently to constrain the string below the upper shear blade as it is sheared to a shape suitable for receiving an overshot type of retrieving tool and to allow flow therein, the lower shear blade having at least one node extending toward the upper shear blade so that when a pipe is being sheared the node engages and penetrates the pipe prior to other shearing of the pipe to thereby reduce the force used for such shearing.

  • Patent number: 4253638
Abstract: A blowout preventer having a body and bonnets hinged thereto with throw latches for securing the bonnets to the body, wedges between the body and the hinges for adjusting the tilt of the bonnet and the position of the hinge side of the bonnets when closed and wedges between the body and the latches for adjusting the position of the latch side of the bonnets when closed.

  • Patent number: 4201242
Abstract: There is disclosed a pressure relief valve having a part which is movable to a first position for returning the closure member thereof to closed position, and thus resetting the valve, automatically in response to a predetermined low pressure level of fluid within the flowway, and to a second position which permits the closure member to move to open position automatically in response to a pressure level of the fluid to be contained which is less than that at which the valve is set to open.
