Patent number: 10464199Abstract: A multi-purpose tool includes a jaw head, a locking mechanism pivotably attached to the jaw head, a first handle, and a second handle. The jaw head includes a first jaw having a first tang and a second jaw having a second tang. The locking mechanism includes a projection extending from a lock body. The first tang includes a notch, and the first handle includes a notch configured to align with the notch in the first tang. The aligned notches are configured to receive the projection of the locking mechanism when the locking mechanism is in a locked position. The first handle is fixed to the jaw head when the locking mechanism is in the locked position due to the projection of the locking mechanism contacting both of the aligned notches. The first handle can be removed from the first tang when the locking mechanism is in an unlocked position.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2017Date of Patent: November 5, 2019Assignee: Fiskars Brands, Inc.Inventors: Hal Hardinge, John Nason, Darrin Seeds

Patent number: 9701004Abstract: A multi-purpose tool includes a jaw head, a first handle removably coupled to the jaw head and a second handle coupled to the jaw head. The first handle includes a body and a hand tool pivotably coupled to the body. The hand tool is moveable between a closed position in which the hand tool is disposed within the body and an open position in which the hand tool extends out of the body. The first handle can be removed from the jaw head to be utilized separately from the jaw head.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2012Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignee: Fiskars Brands, Inc.Inventors: Hal Hardinge, John Nason, Darrin Seeds

Patent number: 7908944Abstract: One embodiment of the invention relates to a locking pliers. The locking pliers include a pair of handles and a pair of interconnected jaws coupled to the handles. The jaws are movable between a retracted position within the handles and an extended position extending from the handles. The jaws are slidably coupled to the handles and configured to slide between the retracted position and the extended position without opening the handles. When the jaws are in the extended position, the jaws have an unclamped configuration in which the jaws are adjustable by a user to permit the jaws to lock onto objects of various sizes and clamped configuration in which the jaws are releasably locked onto an object.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2008Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: Fiskars Brands, Inc.Inventors: John Nason, Hal Hardinge, Edward M. Wallace

Publication number: 20060107800Abstract: A multi-function tool includes a pair of handles and an implement slidably coupled to the handles. The implement is configured to slide in a linear fashion between a stowed position and a deployed position. A bias mechanism is coupled to the implement such that the bias mechanism biases the implement in the direction of the deployed position.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2006Publication date: May 25, 2006Inventors: Edgar Dallas, Edward Wallace, John Nason, Phillip Montague

Publication number: 20050102845Abstract: A system for storing a first object in connection with a second object includes a first retainer having a first magnetic member coupled to the first object and a second retainer having a second magnetic member coupled to the second object. The second retainer is configured to coact with the first retainer so that the first retainer and the second retainer are operable to retain the second object in connection with the first object until the second object is removed by a user. A hand tool combination is also disclosed and includes a primary tool and a secondary tool and includes a first retainer coupled to the primary tool and a second retainer coupled to the secondary tool. The first retainer and the second retainer are configured for attraction by a magnetic force so that the secondary tool is retained in connection with the primary tool.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2003Publication date: May 19, 2005Inventors: Edgar Dallas, John Nason

Publication number: 20050105286Abstract: A pocket tool includes a handle and at least one ancillary tool coupled to the handle. In an exemplary embodiment, a flashlight is coupled to the handle, the flashlight having a first light source directed in a first direction and a second light source directed in a second direction. In another embodiment, the pocket tool may include means for biasing the flashlight into the open position.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2003Publication date: May 19, 2005Inventors: Edgar Dallas, John Nason

Publication number: 20040019974Abstract: A multi-function tool includes a head and a pair of handles. The head has a first jaw and a second jaw, each having a working portion and a tang. The handles have a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration. A spring in the head biases the working portions apart from one another such that the handles are biased in an open position when the handles are in the unfolded configuration and the handles are biased in a closed position when the handles are in the folded configuration.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2003Publication date: February 5, 2004Applicant: Alterra Holdings CorporationInventors: Phillip A. Montague, Edgar A. Dallas, Bradford Parrish, Peter Whitlock, Paul W. Poehlmann, Charlie Alfaro, John Nason
