Patent number: 8604854Abstract: Disclosed herein is a pseudo single-phase flip-flop. The master section includes a pre-dissipation stage and a first keeper. The pre-dissipation stage discharges the first keeper to the mDb second binary value, and selectively charges the first keeper with the mDb first binary value in the master pass mode. The pre-dissipation stage selectively prevents the first keeper from charging to the mDb first binary value in response to one of the clock phases. The slave section includes a pre-charge stage, a second keeper, a post-dissipation stage, and a third keeper. The second keeper maintains a first binary value in a slave pass mode when the mDb signal has a second binary value. The second keeper supports the second binary value in the slave pass mode when the mDb signal has the first binary value. The third keeper maintains the Q signal binary value during the slave hold mode.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2012Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: Applied Micro Circuits CorporationInventors: Hamid Partovi, Alfred Yeung, Luca Ravezzi, John Ngai

Patent number: 6982143Abstract: The invention provides methods and compositions for normalizing and amplifying RNA populations. The methods generally comprise the steps of copying message RNA (mRNA) to form first single-stranded (ss) cDNA; converting the first ss-cDNA to first double-stranded (ds) cDNA; linearly amplifying the first ds-cDNA to form first amplified RNA (aRNA); tagging the 3? end of the first aRNA with a known sequence to form 3?-tagged first aRNA; copying the 3?-tagged first aRNA to form second ss-cDNA; and normalizing the mRNA and/or the first aRNA.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2000Date of Patent: January 3, 2006Assignee: The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: John Ngai, David Lin

Patent number: 6582936Abstract: Nucleic acids are made by converting a primed single-stranded DNA to a double-stranded DNA by a method comprising the step contacting the single-stranded DNA with a DNA polymerase having 5′ exonuclease activity under conditions whereby the DNA polymerase converts the-single stranded DNA to the double-stranded DNA, wherein the single-stranded DNA is primed with oligonucleotide primer comprising a sequence complementary to the 3′ end of the single-stranded DNA, and at least one of the 5′ end of the primer and the single-stranded DNA comprises an RNA polymerase promoter joined to an upstream (5′) flanking moiety which protects the promoter from the 5′ exonuclease activity of the DNA polymerase.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2000Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: Tito Serafini, Percy Luu, John Ngai, David Lin

Patent number: 6114152Abstract: Nucleic acids are made by adding a known nucleotide sequence to the 3' end of a first RNA having a known sequence at the 5' end to form a second RNA and reverse transcribing the second RNA to form a cDNA. In one embodiment, the first RNA is an amplified mRNA, the known sequence at the 5' end comprises a poly(T) sequence, the adding step comprises using a polyadenyltransferase to add a poly(A) sequence to the 3' end, the reverse transcribing step is initiated at a duplex region comprising the poly(T) sequence hybridized to the poly(A) sequence, the cDNA is converted to double-stranded cDNA by a polymerase initiating from a noncovalently joined duplex region, and the double-stranded cDNA is transcribed to form one or more third RNAs.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: Tito Serafini, Percy Luu, John Ngai, David Lin

Patent number: 4972101Abstract: A pull-up or pull-down transistor in an output buffer or the like is controlled to limit dI/dt and thus reduce noise. This control employs a series transistor in the driver circuit which has a modulating voltage applied to its gate. This modulating voltage is generated in a circuit which uses precision-timed clocks as a reference so that variations in electrical parameters (process, temperature and power supply dependent) will not cause variation in circuit noise. A dummy driver circuit is used to discharge a capacitor at a rate dependent upon the modulating voltage, and the capacitor voltage is compared with a reference at a time determined by the precision clock. The result of the comparison is used to increment or decrement the modulating voltage.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1989Date of Patent: November 20, 1990Assignee: Digital Equipment CorporationInventors: Hamid Partovi, John Ngai
