  • Publication number: 20100256966
Abstract: A system and method for generating a numerical skin model. The skin model may be used to predict the interaction of the skin to various devices, such as shaving devices and absorbent articles, for example. The computer-based numerical skin material model of the simulated skin may comprise a mechanical behavior model of a surface epidermis, a mechanical behavior model of a dermis, a mechanical behavior model of a hypodermis, and a van der Waals hyperelastic formulation to represent the behavior of the simulated skin. A strain stiffening viscoelasticty of the simulated human skin may be determined by a Prony time series expansion.

  • Patent number: 7727496
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a method of extracting cobalt and other impurity metals from a concentrated nickel sulphate solution by a solvent extraction process whereby a cationic solvent extractant is separately pre-equilibrated with a portion of a purified nickel sulphate solution in such a manner that it is loaded with nickel without precipitating insoluble nickel double salts. The nickel loaded extracted is then transferred to an impure cobalt nickel solution where the cobalt and certain other impurity metals exchange with nickel leaving a purified concentrated nickel sulphate solution suitable for hydrogen reduction or electrowinning. The cobalt loaded extractant is stripped with dilute sulphuric acid before being recycled while an aqueous cobalt stripped solution is further processed to recover cobalt.

  • Publication number: 20080003154
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a two step solvent extraction circuit to remove impurity metals of zinc and cobalt selectively from a valuable metal of nickel. In order to selectively extract zinc there must be sufficient separation between zinc and cobalt in the cyanex 272 system. Similarly for cobalt and nickel, the separation factor must be of sufficient magnitude to obtain a pure nickel product. The process for the solvent extraction of impurity metals is operated at a temperature exceeding 60° C. being the maximum temperature at which solvent extraction circuits conventionally operate.

  • Patent number: 5503388
Abstract: A buffered stacking apparatus selectively diverts horizontally disposed documents from a main conveying path, then stacks and transports the documents to replaceable receiving receptacles. The apparatus has a primary horizontal conveyor belt with a lower reach defining a horizontal primary conveying path and at least one secondary conveyor belt having an upper reach which, when the secondary conveyor belt is in a horizontal position, is disposed in a lower juxtaposed relation to the lower reach of the primary conveying belt. The buffered stacking system also selectively effects pivotal movement of the secondary conveyor belt from the horizontal position to a second inclined position wherein the reach of the secondary belt is inclined to the lower reach of the primary conveyor belt. Documents being transported along the primary conveying path are diverted along the inclined reach when the secondary conveying belt is inclined.
