    Abstract: A scrubber for removing contaminants from an airstream, preferably including an intake duct, a scrubbing chamber, a stilling chamber, and a filtration unit. The scrubbing chamber has a primary sump and an overhanging secondary sump. A weir gate assembly is employed with the secondary sump to form a water induction slot causing water from the secondary sump to be drawn into the airstream. A baffle arrangement causes the water entrained airstream to flow over the secondary sump and a cascade plate creates a water curtain above the secondary sump. A perforated agitation panel is also disposed over the secondary sump to break up the water droplets in the airstream into smaller droplets.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for releasing for use, air that has been absorbed under pressure in sea water or in any other large free body of water. An elongated conduit, or equivalent means, is vertically disposed so that air released from its upper end is collected by an open-bottom container serving as a reservoir. The interface of the collected air and the submersion level of water within the reservoir is substantially below the free water surface level. A small amount of gas is introduced at the lower end of the conduit so as to rise upwardly through the conduit, thereby carrying water behind it, and to initiate a continuous process in which the rising water is under decreasing pressure, at times increasing temperature, thereby releasing more air, which in turn carries more water behind it, and so on. Air from the reservoir can be used as an energy source.

    Abstract: An exhaust hood may be fabricated which will reduce the rate of exhaust air quantities circulated through the exhaust hood and thereby reduce the quantity of make up air supplied to the exhaust hood from the conditioned space with a resultant energy savings. The exhaust hood may include a supply plenum, an exhaust duct and a partial pressure chamber coupled to the supply plenum. A partial pressure is formed within the partial pressure chamber which is provided with at least one venturi slot at its lower extremity. Typically, two venturi slots are employed to produce a partial pressure region exterior to the partial pressure chamber, which region is juxtapositioned to an inlet port provided in the exhaust duct.

    Abstract: An exhaust hood may be fabricated having a plurality of slots disposed at one side of the cavity formed by the hood to form a substantially streamlined, and uniform air flow across the cavity to efficiently entrain smoke laiden air without requiring large volumes of air flow. This type of air flow pattern within the cavity is obtained by appropriately baffling the air supplied to the multiple slots, forming a number of high velocity venturi slots, and canting oppositely disposed inlet filters away from the outlet slots. The uniform air flow creates a low pressure area which then draws underlying smoke laiden air upward. The hood canopy may be provided with a second source of tempered air to direct comfort condition air through a slot on the face of the hood along the cooking line for the safety and comfort of the workers below.

    Abstract: A modular ceiling system utilizing a plurality of stringers interlocked with one another to provide a high strength, non-warping suspended ceiling grid assembly. The T-shaped stringer employed in the grid assembly has a channel-shaped T-head designed to support acoustical ceiling tiles flush with the lower edge of the stringers. The main stringers are arranged parallel to one another and interlocked to secondary stringers to provide a grid of four sided cells. Part of the secondary stringers have the same length as one side of a single cell and others are of double that length. The double length secondary stringers are constructed to have a snug snap-lock joint with the main stringers whereas the single length secondary stringers have a snug, non-locking fit between the mid-portions of the double length stringers.
