  • Publication number: 20120278711
Abstract: An apparatus and method for assessing a hazard associated with an object are disclosed. The apparatus includes a haptic input/output device coupled to a computer with haptic modeling software and a display device. A virtual object and a virtual passageway are displayed on the display device. The virtual passageway includes a haptic layer along a surface thereof. Force applied by a user to the haptic input/output device causes a cursor on the display device to move the virtual object into the virtual passageway. An interaction of the virtual object with the haptic layer generates a virtual contact force which may be determined by the user sensing a corresponding tactile feedback force generated by the haptic input/output device and/or by the computer processor. The magnitude of the virtual contact force may be used to assess a hazard associated with the virtual object.

  • Patent number: 7589719
Abstract: Computer operations are partitioned for execution by a processor. A plurality of operations to be partitioned is received. The respective priorities for each of the plurality of operations is determined. Ready operations are identified, where a ready operation is an operation that does not have any predecessor operations that have not yet been added to a partition. A determination is made whether adding the ready operations with the highest priorities to the current partition would violate a hardware resource constraint. Based on this determination, the ready operations are added to the partition. The operations added to the partition are provided to a processor for execution.

  • Publication number: 20070245141
Abstract: A cryptographic processor for redundantly-processing cryptographic operations is disclosed. The cryptographic processor includes a number of input ports, a first and second cryptographic engines, comparison logic and a plurality of output ports. The number of input ports is configured to accept both plaintext and ciphertext. Each of the number of input ports is coupled to both the first and second cryptographic engines. The comparison logic is configured to determine if the first and second cryptographic engines produce a result that is different. The number of output ports is configured to produce both plaintext and ciphertext.

  • Publication number: 20070150700
Abstract: A processor implements conditional vector operations in which, for example, an input vector containing multiple operands to be used in conditional operations is divided into two or more output vectors based on a condition vector. Each output vector can then be processed at full processor efficiency without cycles wasted due to branch latency. Data to be processed are divided into two groups based on whether or not they satisfy a given condition by e.g., steering each to one of the two index vectors. Once the data have been segregated in this way, subsequent processing can be performed without conditional operations, processor cycles wasted due to branch latency, incorrect speculation or execution of unnecessary instructions due to predication. Other examples of conditional operations include combining one or more input vectors into a single output vector based on a condition vector, conditional vector switching, conditional vector combining, and conditional vector load balancing.

  • Publication number: 20070127323
Abstract: The present network attached mountable optical disc storage library provides a plurality of disc media drives and at least one removable disc storage magazine. A picker traveling on a picker track transports the discs between the disc storage cartridges that are located in the disc storage magazines and the disc media drives. The disc media drives and the disc storage cartridges are coplanar and horizontally located around the picker track such that as the picker travels along the picker track, the disc media drives and the disc storage cartridges are aligned with the picker. The disc storage magazines are located one on each side of the picker track and the disc media drives are radially arranged around the end of the picker track so the picker executes a rotational movement when it reaches the end of the picker track to access the disc media drives.

  • Publication number: 20070130579
Abstract: The removable optical disc storage cartridge stores a plurality of optical disc media in a substantially stacked orientation for later extraction and presentation to a picker of in an optical disc storage library. Each optical disc media is stored on a separate extractor that slides between a retracted and a stored position. An extractor tab, accessible outside or inside of the removable optical disc storage cartridge, is connected to each one of the extractors located within the removable optical disc storage cartridge. The removable optical disc storage cartridge further includes a security front door that operates between a closed and open position and further includes a locking element. The locking element may be operated by the picker or a release element contained on a magazine that handles multiple disc storage cartridges. The removable optical disc storage cartridge also includes seals to prevent dust from entering the removable optical disc storage cartridge.
