  • Patent number: 8502452
Abstract: A light source system and method that generates stable optical power over time and temperature for use in laser scanning, turbidity sensing, airborne-particle analysis, fog and visibility monitoring, blood-gas analysis and applications where light source output intensity changes less than one-half percent over a 50° C. range. The system includes a miniature semiconductor light emitter that can be powered by two AAA alkaline batteries for more than 100 hours and is about 1 cm3 in size (TO-5 package). A semiconductor light emitter emits a beam of linearly polarized light through a coated optical element having first and second surfaces that meet at an acute angle, the first surface reflecting a portion of the light to a control system and transmitting the rest through the second surface in a direction normal to it and thereby enabling immunity to light interference in the reflected and transmitted beams and novel, error-canceling properties.

  • Publication number: 20110059282
Abstract: An automated system and method for applying thermoplastic adhesives to work pieces from a roll of adhesive segments applied to an adhesive segment-laden carrier release tape. The present invention may be implemented in a system that automatically advances the adhesive segment-laden carrier release tape to position an adhesive segment thereon in the apparatus for application thereof to a work piece. Accurate indexing and advancement of the adhesive segment-laden carrier release tape preferably is provided by optical indexing of the carrier release tape, e.g., by the optical detection of a transverse line or other index marking printed or otherwise provided on the adhesive segment carrier release along with the adhesive segments deposited thereon.

  • Patent number: 7767947
Abstract: A semiconductor light source with optical feedback includes a vertical member extending upward from an upper horizontal surface of a header parallel to a vertical beam projected from a semiconductor light-emitting element mounted on the horizontal surface of the header wherein the vertical member supports a light-sensing element for receiving light reflected transversely from the vertical beam by a beam splitter supported by the vertical member. The vertical beam passing through the beam splitter passes through a window or filter in a cap mounted on the header and covering the light-emitting element, the light-sensing element, the beam splitter, and the vertical member. Substantially all of the transversely reflected light impinges on the light-sensing element and can be used to control the power to the light-emitting element. A simple lens can by used to collimate the beam. Interior portions of the unit are formed from light absorbing materials such as black ceramic, black plastic, anodized aluminum, etc.

  • Patent number: 7195049
Abstract: A handheld adhesive segment applicator apparatus for use in combination with carrier release tape having pressure-sensitive adhesive segments attached thereto is disclosed which has a mechanism interacting an indexing instrumentality on the carrier release tape to facilitate the dispensing of individual adhesive segments. The indexing mechanism consists of a plurality of patterned scores, cuts, or indentations located in the surface of the carrier release tape, thereby allowing for an advancement mechanism in the handheld adhesive segment applicator apparatus to engage the carrier release tape. The indexed adhesive segment-laden carrier release tape may thereby be dispensed by the handheld mechanical adhesive segment applicator apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6601464
Abstract: A particle momentum detector has a massive support with a flat surface on which is mounted a piezoelectric member supporting a flat low mass plate resistant to deformation by impinging particles. The low mass plate has a rigidity suppressing multiple mode vibration of the plate. The piezoelectric member generates a damped oscillating electrical signal when a particle impinges upon the plate. A circuit integrates a portion, such as the first half cycle, of the damped oscillating electrical signal to determine momentum of the particle.
