Publication number: 20030126291Abstract: A method of addressing a node in a network comprising reading an identifier, translating the identifier into a group identification representative of a plurality of identifiers, indexing an address table with the group identification, and mapping the identification to a first node of the network is provided. A message distributor for processing an identifier and routing the identifier to a processing node comprising a translation module for receiving the identifier and converting the identifier into one of a plurality of group identifications, and a first table including a plurality of records each indexable by one of the plurality of group identifications, an indexed record including an element having a first address of the processing node is provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 28, 2001Publication date: July 3, 2003Inventors: Ben B. Patent number: 6563919Abstract: A gateway cluster has a number of gateways for different types of communication protocols. The respective gateways convert network messages to normalized messages by querying the categories, data, and network types of the normalized data for the mobile systems from which the network messages were generated. A database system stores normalized data in categories. The normalized data include data relating to the mobile systems and network types for the data. A unified mobility manager is coupled to and in communications with the gateway cluster and the database system. The unified mobility manager receives and processes the normalized messages, performs operations based on the normalized messages and on the categories, the data, and the network types of the normalized data, and formulates normalized responses responsive to the normalized messages. The normalized responses are converted to network responses at the gateways, and the network responses are sent to the respective mobile systems.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1999Date of Patent: May 13, 2003Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Lakshminarasimhan Aravamudhan, John P. Larkins, Rohit Gupta, Haitao Li

Patent number: 6295291Abstract: A potential radiotelephone service subscriber logs on to a world wide web server (105) using an internet access device (101). The potential subscriber is presented with a plurality of selectable radiotelephone services and features. The potential subscriber then provides the billing system (130) with credit information that is validated through the credit validation system (140). A radiotelephone service profile is stored in the home location register (110) after the subscription process has been completed. The subscriber is then instructed to power up the radiotelephone that then registers with the system. An over-the-air activation function (135) collects data from the billing system (130) and an authentication center (125) and sends the data to the mobile switching center (115) that then transmits it through the base station (120) to the radiotelephone. The radiotelephone reprograms its own registers with the appropriate data.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1997Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventor: John P. Larkins
