  • Patent number: 4916097
Abstract: A method for activation of an organic cation-containing crystalline catalyst is disclosed. The method includes contacting the catalyst with steam under conditions to decompose the organic cations, which result in the activation of the catalyst. The method has the advantage that organic cations are converted to non-hazardous by-products such as ammonia and light hydrocarbons such as ethylene. These are more easily controlled by environmental control schemes than higher molecular weight by-products resulting from traditional activation methods (nitrogen or nitrogen/air). The steamed catalyst can optionally be calcined to remove any organic material which may remain after steaming. For instance, a major product which results from decomposting the tetraethylammonium organic cations in zeolite .beta. is ethylene. The ethylene can be subsequently converted into carbon dioxide and water by oxidation.

  • Patent number: 4908342
Abstract: There is provided an improvement for making large crystallite ZSM-5 zeolites by a method comprising forming the zeolite in a medium containing a combination of tetramethylammonium and tetrapropylammonium cations. The improvement involves the addition of sodium chloride to the aqueous reaction medium to increase the uniformity of crystallite size and to increase the mean crystallite size. Also provided are catalysts comprising these ZSM-5 crystallites and processes for converting organic compounds with these catalysts.

  • Patent number: 4885426
Abstract: A process is provided for transalkylation of polyalkylaromatics over a catalyst comprising a molecular sieve having a high lattice aluminum content whereby its silica/alumina mole ratio is less than 40 and an alpha value of at least about 140.

  • Patent number: 4778665
Abstract: Abatement of nitrogen oxides in an industrial exhaust gas is effected by reduction of the nitrogen oxides with ammonia in the presence of a catalyst comprising a porous crystalline siliceous solid such as a ZSM-5 type zeolite. Fast responses to changes of NO.sub.x load is achieved with a zeolite of low to moderate acid activity. The catalyst may be virgin catalyst, aged catalyst previously used for the conversion of a hydrocarbon or an organic compound, or artifically aged catalyst.

  • Patent number: 4721824
Abstract: A method is provided for removing trace amounts of organic chlorides from feedstocks by passing the feedstock in contact with a guard bed catalyst comprising shaped particles formed by extruding a mixture of magnesium oxide and a binder inert to the feedstock. The process has particular importance in removing organic chlorides from toluene feedstocks prior to contacting toluene with a disproportionation or alkylation catalyst comprising magnesium-ZSM-5.

  • Patent number: 4547605
Abstract: This specification discloses a process for the alkylation of aromatics utilizing ZSM-23 catalyst. A particularly preferred embodiment utilizes ZSM-23 made from a forming mixture containing amorphous precipitated silica, as a silica source, including trace amounts of alumina and sodium chloride.

  • Patent number: 4463209
Abstract: Improved aromatic conversion processes are provided by novel regeneration techniques. Aromatic processes that would benefit from this invention include those processes using catalysts comprising zeolites having a silica to alumina mole ratio of at least about 12 and a constraint index within the approximate range of 1 to 12 and which require regeneration to burn off coke from said catalysts. The improvement of the instant invention resides in conducting said regeneration in the presence of steam under controlled conditions to enhance the activity of the catalysts.

  • Patent number: 4447666
Abstract: A method is provided for preparing a para-selective, zeolite-based aromatics alkylation catalyst by treating a ZSM-5 type zeolite base catalyst composite with an aqueous magnesium nitrate solution and thereafter calcining the composite so treated. Such catalysts can be used in alkylation processes to provide alkylated aromatic product mixtures having exceptionally high concentrations of the para-dialkylbenzene isomer.
