  • Publication number: 20030229602
Abstract: A method for printing indicia on mailpieces at an increased average speed. The system includes: a postal scale for determining a postage amount for a mail piece; a printer; and a postage meter responsive to the postal scale to control the printer to print an indicium representative of the postage amount. The postage meter further includes: a programmable controller; a secure mechanism for accounting for postage amounts expended; and an indicia generator.

  • Publication number: 20020166704
Abstract: An apparatus for transporting and weighing articles while in motion including a base structure and a driving mechanism, connected to the base, for contacting an article along a first surface and transporting the article along a transport path. A vertical support baffle, connected to the base, is configured to contact the article along a second surface and guide said article along the transport path. A weighing mechanism is connected to the base, and the driving mechanism is configured to calculate the weight of the article as it is moved along the transport path. The present invention also includes a method for moving and weighing articles including the steps of moving the article along a transport such that the transport is coupled to weighing mechanisms. The weight of the article is then measured.

  • Patent number: 6425748
Abstract: A positive displacement rotary pump including a housing having an internal chamber and inlet and discharge ports, a sealing land on the housing between a downstream end of the inlet port and an upstream end of the discharge port, and a rotating group in the internal chamber defining a plurality of pump chambers. The pump chambers traverse in succession and at regular intervals the inlet port and the sealing land and the discharge port. The housing has a stationary pre-charging passage which communicates with the discharge port and overlaps the sealing land. The rotating group includes a plurality of rotating pre-charging passages which communicate with respective ones of the pump chambers.

  • Patent number: 6292907
Abstract: Apparatus selects a state machine bit group from a plurality of state machine bit groups of a digital system for debugging the state machine connected to the selected bit group. The apparatus is adapted to output the bits of the selected bit group using existing output pins of the digital system, and includes a first multiplexer which is adapted to be connected to the plurality of state machine bit groups for outputting the selected state machine bit group. A second multiplexer is adapted to be connected to system signals and the selected state machine bit group from the first multiplexer, and outputs one of the system signals and the selected state machine bit group via the output pins of the system. A control circuit supplies a first select signal to the first multiplexer for selecting the selected state machine bit group output by the first multiplexer, and supplies a second select signal to the second multiplexer for selecting one of the selected bit group and the system signals.

  • Patent number: 6275546
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for producing an output clock signal that is selectively synchronized to one of two generally free-running input clock signals that may be of the same or different frequency and phase. The apparatus is adapted to switch between the two input clock signals in a manner whereby the output clock signal does not have any clock pulses that are shrunk or narrowed.

  • Patent number: 6247058
Abstract: A network device receives packets from a first network segment, time stamps the packets as they arrive, and transmits the packets to a second network segment. By time stamping packets as they arrive, stale packets can be identified and discarded. A stale packet is a packet that has been pending in the network device longer than an active timeout interval, which may be varied based on network traffic levels to conserve network bandwidth. Packets may also be discarded to conserve packet buffer memory in the network device. For example, when an incoming packet arrives and an output buffer in which the packet must be stored is full, the output buffer is scanned to identify and discard packets that have exceeded a minimum timeout interval, thereby allowing the incoming packet to be stored in the output buffer. Many network protocols initiate the retransmission of packets after a timeout interval has expired and an acknowledge packet has not been received.

  • Patent number: 6105957
Abstract: A buckle accumulator including an input feed system, an output feed system located downstream in a path of travel from the input feed system, a receiving space located adjacent the path of travel between the input feed system and the output feed system, and a deflector. The input feed system feeds a plurality of sheets one at a time in a path of travel into the buckle accumulator. Each of the plurality of sheets has a leading edge and a trailing edge. The output feed system feeds a stack of sheets out of the buckle accumulator. Generally, the lead edge for each of the plurality of sheets is substantially unrestrained between the input feed system and the output feed system. The receiving space accepts the plurality of sheets one at a time to create the stack. The deflector is mounted in proximity to the receiving space for selectively actuating between a first position out of contact with a first sheet previously accumulated in the receiving space and a second position in contact with the first sheet.

  • Patent number: 5281344
Abstract: A process and apparatus for treating contaminated water involving passing water containing contaminants as a stream through a filter to remove the contaminants and form a purified water stream, directing the purified water stream to an effluent discharge outlet and accumulating a portion of the purified water in a reservoir under pressure, preferably through action of a trapped air pocket in the reservoir, and regenerating the filter by using the purified water in the reservoir to back-flush the filter.

  • Patent number: 5135115
Abstract: A document sorter/stacker apparatus includes a plurality of slotted disk assemblies respectively associated with bins or pockets in which high-speed transported documents are to be sorted and stacked. Each of the disk assemblies is selectively rotated to position its document capture slot either into or out of the transport path documents, thereby to enable either the routing of the document through that particular pocket or its passage to another pocket. When the leading end of a document is captured within the slot, the slotted disk assembly is rotated to feed the document into the corresponding pocket. The rim of the slotted disk assembly is in contact with a document transport belt and with an endless belt driven by the slotted disk assembly to urge the document into the pocket. After the document has been fed into the pocket, the endless belt urges the tail end of the document away from the slotted disk assembly and toward a backing plate where the documents are accumulated in a stacked configuration.
