Patent number: 9857744Abstract: A method for feeding uneven media from a high capacity feeder includes rotating the pages in a stack 180° every 100-250 pages. This is only done with non-flat pages, such as, envelopes, pages with labels thereon, etc., which create tilted stacks and limit the number of pages that can be placed in the high capacity feeder. Rotating the pages 180° distributes the uneven build-up of the pages and creates a relatively flat stack, allowing the high capacity feeder to be filled to capacity. A camera or sensor placed in the high capacity feeder will detect the orientation of the stack on the fly so the image can be rotated accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2016Date of Patent: January 2, 2018Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: John P Parsons, James M Maryniak, John M Palmer, John D Ormonde

Patent number: 8657103Abstract: An apparatus has a continuous loop conveyor belt mounted on a frame. The conveyor belt has a first edge, a second edge, and a belt surface between the first edge and the second edge. The first edge is positioned relatively higher than the second edge such that the belt surface is at an angle with respect to a horizontal ground reference plane, and such that the belt surface slopes downwardly from the first edge toward the second edge. In addition, a sidewall is connected to the frame. The sidewall is positioned adjacent the second edge, and the sidewall is perpendicular to the belt surface and runs parallel to the second edge. Therefore, the sidewall prevents items from falling off the belt surface at the second edge. Further, a plurality of rectangular fins are connected to the belt surface. The fins are perpendicular to the sidewall and perpendicular to the belt surface. A vibrator is connected to the frame and transmits vibrations to the conveyor belt.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2010Date of Patent: February 25, 2014Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Douglas K. Herrmann, John P. Parsons, Robert L. Powell

Patent number: 8371568Abstract: This is a media transport system that can accommodate various size media or sheets. The system has a series of even sized bins that can accommodate both small and large sheets. Above the bins is located a sheet diverter that when lowered diverts the small sheets into a small portion of the even sized bin. When the sheet diverter is raised, it permits the large sheets to be unblocked by it and fall into the largest portion of the even sized bin. When the large sheets are housed in the bin, they are supported on a short pusher which is located between two large pushers. Both the small and large sheets are in substantial collated alignment when housed in the bins.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2010Date of Patent: February 12, 2013Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Douglas K Herrmann, John P Parson, Robert L Powell

Patent number: 8330971Abstract: A method and apparatus of printing books based on digital data, comprises accepting a plurality of orders, each order including a request for at least one copy of each of a plurality of titles. The plurality of orders form a streamlined cover set. The streamlined cover set is scanned, the detecting of each cover in the cover set causing digital printing of a book block corresponding to the detected title associated with the cover.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Alexandra D Ruegg, Kenneth Wang, John P Parsons, Daniel Vega, Louis Sinn, Richard T Horn

Patent number: 4702090Abstract: A magnetic refrigerator has a rotating magnetic wheel which includes a stack of spaced rings of magnetic material. Heat transfer plates of a high temperature heat extractor are interleaved with the magnetic rings and extend to a solid heat transfer conduit which leads to a high temperature terminal. Superconducting magnet coils are mounted to provide a magnetic field through the magnetic wheel at the position of the high temperature heat transfer plates. Low temperature extractor heat transfer plates are positioned outside of the magnetic field and interleave with the rings of the magnetic wheel to transfer heat thereto which is conducted from a low temperature terminal through a solid conduit.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1986Date of Patent: October 27, 1987Assignee: Astronautics Corporation of AmericaInventors: John A.
