Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for scanning a paper document to create an electronic document that is displayed to allow one or more metadata tags to be inserted in the electronic document. Each metadata tag contains metadata that describes the contents of the document. Large volumes of documents can be archived so that a quick search of the documents may be accomplished by searching the metadata tags contained in the documents. The systems and methods described provide a fast and efficient way to enter metadata tags into documents as paper documents are converted to electronic documents. In at least one implementation, computational algorithms may be used to identify specific portions of a document for selective processing and storage.

Abstract: Methods for establishing and providing secure communication between a device and a computer system are described. A representative method includes: establishing a secure communication link between the device and a web server by utilizing a security protocol; accessing a programming process located on the web server; sending security information to the programming process, wherein the security information is provided to a computer system by programming calls made from the programming process; and receiving a response from the computer system via the programming process. Systems, devices, and other methods are also provided.

Abstract: The present invention provides facsimile communication devices, communication systems and facsimile communication methods. According to one aspect of the present invention, a facsimile communication device comprises: a first input configured to receive a nonfacsimile destination designator; a second input configured to receive data to be communicated to the nonfacsimile destination designator; a processor configured to provide the nonfacsimile destination designator within a facsimile protocol file; and a facsimile modem coupled with the second input and adapted to communicate, using facsimile protocol communications, the data and the facsimile protocol file.
