  • Patent number: 5261104
Abstract: A computer system with an internal operating system located in ROM is initialized in that operating system but can also automatically be directly initialized in an operating system of choice such as one located on an external memory, that is, a diskette or fixed disk. The computer system may also automatically be directly initialized in an application running under the internal operating system and, if desired, initialization may automatically directly include a customized version of the internal operating system. These customizing features are obtained through a customization word located in permanent read/write memory.

  • Patent number: 5198802
Abstract: Effectiveness of using both a mouse (13) and a keyboard (21) for entry of function selection by cursor (17) is achieved by the system recognizing a mouse entry as such and not moving cursor (17) with transition of displays, while keyboard operation moves the cursor in increments and repositions the cursor as appropriate on transition of displays. Further, after a screen transition the cursor is moved to the normal initial cursor location of the new screen when a keyboard operation calls for cursor movement while the cursor is not near a selection symbol.

  • Patent number: 5153316
Abstract: The present invention relates to novel phenylimidazolone compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein A is a bond or C.dbd.T;R is --H, Alk, halo-Alk, cyano-Alk, or phenyl;R.sup.1 is --H, Alk, halogen, halo-Alk, --CN; or when A is a bond, R and R.sup.1 may together form a saturated, partially saturated, or unsaturated three to seven member carbon ring, and the ring may be substituted at any position independently with one or more Alk, --O--Alk, --CN, halogen, --OH, or .dbd.O groups;T is O or S;U is --H;V is --OH, or U and V may together form a bond;W is halogen or --CN, and when W is halogen, R.sup.1 is --CN;X is --H or halogen;Y is --H, halogen, --CN, Alk, --CF.sub.3, or --OCF.sub.3 ;Z is --H, halogen, --OH, Alk, aryloxy, C.sub.1-6 acyl, --NH.sub.2, --NO.sub.2, --NR.sup.2 SO.sub.2 R.sup.2, --N(SO.sub.2 R.sup.2).sub.2, --NR.sup.2 COR.sup.

  • Patent number: 5134580
Abstract: A computer system with read-only memory and permanent read/write memory provides the user with the capability of loading an alternate operating system at the conclusion of a session without turning the computer off and then on. A customization word with a system request (SR) bit is located in read/write memory and is set by routines located in ROM upon user request. A reinitialization is then forced which resets the SR bit and brings up the machine in the alternate operating system located in external memory on a diskette or fixed disk. A flexible initialization system is also disclosed providing customized initialization in a variety of operating systems and applications. The preferred customized initialization is maintained for future system start-ups due to the resetting of the SR bit.

  • Patent number: 4319991
Abstract: Apparatus for separating a composite of three materials into their particular groups includes a first screen (17) which permits the group of the smallest sized material to pass therethrough. The materials not passing through the screen (17) are fed to a trough (21). Second screens (23) are provided near the end of the trough which permits the group of the mid-sized materials to pass therethrough. The group of the largest sized materials move to and through a discharge spout (25) at the end of the trough (21).

  • Patent number: 3970094
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for holding a comb or similar device for treatment of the hair in a fixed position relative to the ear lobe in the first step of its use in parting the hair at a predetermined point. The apparatus includes an arcuate or similar retaining element having a slide member adapted to slide along the length of the arcuate element and a comb is held in a clamp which forms a portion of the slide member. A stationary support or positioning bracket on one end of the arcuate element provides a reference for alignment with the ear lobe. Thus, in use, the stationary bracket is aligned with the top of the ear lobe with the arcuate member extending over the person's head. The comb is previously positioned along the arcuate element so as to effect the desired location of the part in the hair. With this accomplished the whole unit is moved downwardly so as to effect the part by the downwardly moving comb.
