  • Publication number: 20110147142
Abstract: A braking control system is provided for a towing vehicle and trailer vehicle combination, each vehicle being equipped with pneumatic brakes controlled by the towing vehicle, the towing vehicle being connected to the trailer vehicle by separable and lockable coupling means (4, 5), and the trailer vehicle brakes being connected to the towing vehicle brakes by means of separable air connectors. The system comprises a controller (9) mountable in or on the towing vehicle, detector means (7) associated with the coupling means for detecting locking thereof, and pneumatic control means (15, 24) regulating the pneumatic brake supply to the trailer, the controller (9) being arranged to control operation of the pneumatic control means in response to the output of the detector means.

  • Publication number: 20080191449
Abstract: A system for monitoring the coupling of a tractor to a trailer of an articulated road vehicle, the tractor mounting a hitch assembly (7) for coupling to a king pin (9) downwardly depending from the underside of the trailer (10), comprises a sensor (14) producing an electrical signal proportional to the vertical distance between the hitch assembly and the underside of the trailer, and indicator means (16) connected to the sensor for providing an indication of the vertical distance.

  • Patent number: 6315420
Abstract: An adjustable rear-view mirror apparatus for a road vehicle has a drive for rotating the mirror to an angle determined by a control signal thereto. The drive includes an output gear driven by a drive gear rotated by a motor. A leaf spring carries the drive gear and biasses it into engagement with the output gear while allowing separation of the gears when a predetermined loading on the gears is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 5856887
Abstract: The tractor unit of an articulated road vehicle includes an angle sensor unit arranged to sense the angular position of the trailer relative to the tractor and to cause the rear view mirror for the driver to move so that he can always see the trail end of the trailer. According to this invention the sensor unit is deflectable mounted on the tractor unit so that it can be moved out of harms way when hit, e.g., by a trailer.
