Publication number: 20200123713Abstract: A set of grass pavers for creating a paver arrangement is provided. Each grass pavers comprises intersecting longitudinal members and transverse members forming an inner opening for growing grass. Pairs of adjacent member extremities form partial openings configured to form complete openings when a 5 grass paver is assembled with adjacent grass pavers. The longitudinal members and/or the transverse members have recessed portion(s) having an upper face extending below the exposed top face of the unitary body. The recessed portions are hidden by grass when the grass paver is installed and in use in the paver arrangement. The grass paver have an overall surface area delimited by the 10 extremities of the longitudinal and transverse members, and a void surface area corresponding to a sum of the inner opening area and the partial opening areas. The void ratio, defined as the void surface area over the overall area, is greater than 50%.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2019Publication date: April 23, 2020Inventors: Bertin CASTONGUAY, John PENTERMAN, Tamara EVANS, Robert DECLOS

Patent number: 10619348Abstract: Disclosed is a wall assembly including preformed building blocks and a trellis type support member for maintaining the building blocks in place in the desired orientation. The wall assembly further includes at least one support for holding the trellis upright. The individual blocks are connected to the supporting trellis for added stability. Although not every block in the wall need be connected to the trellis support member in order to achieve the desired added stability, it is preferred to connect each block in the wall to the trellis. Connectors are provided for connecting the blocks to the trellis. Each block preferably is connected to the trellis by at least one connector, most preferably by a pair of connectors. To accommodate relative movement or shifting of the blocks during installation and in situ, the connectors are preferably movably connected to the trellis or the block, or both.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2018Date of Patent: April 14, 2020Inventors: Bertin Castonguay, Robert Declos, Joel Remillard, John Penterman

Patent number: 10337152Abstract: A dual-unit paving system for covering a surface has pairs of first and second units. For each pair, the first and second unit have different respective shapes and sizes, and are configured to be matingly engageable for forming a hexagonal assembly having six, non-linear sides. The hexagonal assembly allows forming rotational tessellations. The first and second units are also shaped and configured to be matingly engageable so as to form horizontally aligned tessellations, and also vertically aligned tessellations.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2018Date of Patent: July 2, 2019Assignee: Oldcastle Building Products Canada Inc.Inventors: Stephane Dignard, John Penterman

Patent number: 10087597Abstract: A stackable concrete wall block is disclosed having a body with an irregular front portion and a prism shaped rear portion, the irregular front portion has a three dimensional surface structure embossed in the front face providing the appearance of natural stone and the regular rear portion facilitating stacking of like blocks. The rear portion has parallel sidewalls perpendicular to a rear wall, which are more easily manufactured by dry casting than tapered sidewalls. A lip protrudes from at least one of the sidewalls of the rear portion and is coplanar with the front face for spacing the body of the block from that of a like block placed adjacent thereto. The lateral lip generates spacing between adjacent blocks at a back terminal edge, thereby allowing the assembly of curved walls. The irregular front face extends over the lip so that the front face is continuous over the lip.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2015Date of Patent: October 2, 2018Assignee: LES MATERIAUX DE CONSTRUCTION OLDCASTLE CANADA, INC.Inventors: Robert Daoust, Bertin Castonguay, Tamara Evans, John Penterman

Patent number: 9574308Abstract: A paving slab. The paving slab has a unitary body made of concrete-based material, the body having sidewalls extending between top and bottom faces, providing the body with a thickness. The top face is provided with longitudinal false joints defining rows extending from a first to a second side of the unitary body. The first side has a staggered outline and the second side has a stepped outline, the first and second sides being able to engage with respective first and second sides of an adjacent slab shaped as the paving slab, but rotated by 180 degrees. When several of the slabs are assembled on a surface, it creates an illusion that the surface is covered by individual plank pavers randomly assembled.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2014Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: Oldcastle Building Products Canada Inc.Inventors: Bertin Castonguay, John Penterman, Tamara Evans
