  • Patent number: 7320536
Abstract: A lighting assembly that includes a light fixture adapted to be disposed in relation to an opening defined in a surface of a structure such that a lamp may be installed in the light fixture through the opening, a trim having an outer surfaces, and an intumescent layer on the outer surface of the trim. The trim is adapted to engage the light fixture so that the outer surface of the trim on which the intumescent layer is disposed is positioned in proximity to the opening in the structure. The intumescent layer is adapted to expand to form a fire resistant seal between the trim and the structure when the intumescent layer reaches a predetermined temperature.

  • Publication number: 20070236946
Abstract: A lighting assembly comprising a socket housing having a lamp socket electrically connected to an electrical junction, a trim removably attached to the socket housing about its opening; and one or more solid-state light emitting device associated with the trim. The one or more solid-state light emitting devices may be inconspicuous to the casual observer when they are not illuminated. The one or more solid-state light emitting devices are operatively connected to the electrical junction such that they can receive electrical power when the electrical junction is operatively connected to mains power. The connection between the LEDs and the junction may be controlled manually, by a backup power supply circuit, motion detector, or light detector to provide, among other possibilities, mood lighting, backup lighting or work lighting, in addition to the light provided by a lamp in the socket.

  • Patent number: 6327758
Abstract: The subject matter is a resilient unitary lighting clip which connects a bar hanger to a T-bar in an overhead lighting assembly. The clip includes a face plate which has a lock formed integral with the face plate to secure the clip to the bar hanger. A U-shaped connector is formed integral with the face plate for receiving a bar hanger. A support is formed integral with the connector for receiving a portion of a T-bar. A catch is formed integral with the support and is resiliently connectable to the T-bar. A tab is formed integral with the support and is engageable with the T-bar for positioning the clip relative to the T-bar.

  • Patent number: 6174076
Abstract: An improved lock used with a recessed lighting fixture is the present subject matter. The fixture is adapted for installation in a mounting aperture in a ceiling. The fixture includes a frame which has a retainer ring for connection to the outside or bottom of the ceiling. A unitary resilient lock is pivotly mounted in the frame and is also movably mounted in the frame. The lock includes a head engageable with the interior or upper surface of the ceiling to hold the frame in the mounting aperture. The head includes a curl having a lip extending outwardly from the frame. The lock includes a latch which releasably engages the frame to hold the lock in one position relative to the frame and thereby hold the frame in the mounting aperture. The lock includes an ear engageable with the frame to retain the lock in the frame during shipment of the frame to a site for installation in a ceiling.
