  • Tank insulation method with cryogenic exposure

    Abstract: A ceramic fiber fabric such as an alumino-boro-silicate fabric is impregnated with a silicone elastomer to form a composite material. The fabric may be reinforced with hoops or rings to provide a free-standing insulation. The insulation is attached to the wall of a tank. The tank may be subjected to cryogenic temperatures such as during a cryostretch tank formation procedure, without cracking or spalling the insulation. The insulated tank can withstand exposure of elevated temperatures such as about 2000.degree. F.
