  • Patent number: 5833928
Abstract: A specimen transporting and processing system having a tubular container with a collar threadedly secured at one end and with a cap applied to the collar. The collar is temporarily locked in place on the container by means of an extending tab which is bound in place by a tape strip adhering to the tab and to the container. When the tape strip is removed or broken, the collar can then be unscrewed and removed from the container.

  • Patent number: 5378226
Abstract: A system for impregnating and dispensing a swab. An outer bag is provided having at least one swab and a burst pouch located therein. The burst pouch is opened within the bag while the bag is sealed, impregnating the swab before its removal. The bag is then opened, and the impregnated swab is removed through an access opening in the bag. The access opening is located so that the bag may be lain horizontally without liquid in the bag spilling from the bag. The pouch is oriented in the bag to be in proximity to the absorbent head of the swab.

  • Patent number: 4964944
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing and severing a web of film. The apparatus includes a first jaw located on one side of the web of film and a second jaw located on a second side of the web of film. The first and second jaws cooperate to grip the web of film. Located within the first jaw is a heater member for sealing and severing the web of film. The heater member is secured so that the time and/or pressure at which the heater member engages the web of film may be varied independent of the first jaw.

  • Patent number: 4744845
Abstract: An apparatus for splicing film together is provided. The apparatus includes a first jaw and a second jaw, the jaws cooperating to clamp two film ends together. A heat sealer for sealing the two film ends together is located in the first jaw. A rotatable block is located in a second jaw. The rotatable block is rotatable to a cutting position and a sealing position. In the cutting position, a side of the rotatable block having a slot faces upwardly and contacts the film. In the sealing position a side of the rotatable block having a back up member faces upwardly and contacts the film. When the film is clamped between the jaws and the rotatable block and is in the cutting position, a portion of the block, and accordingly the film, extends outwardly from a horizontal plane defined between the jaws. Therefore, after the film is cut along the slot in the block and the block is rotated to the sealing position, the severed ends of the film overlap. A method of splicing film is also provided.
