  • Publication number: 20040081646
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to the identification phage lysin from group B streptococci (GBS). The nucleic acid sequence and amino acid sequence of the GBS phage lysin is disclosed. The GBS phage lysin is a bifunctional protein comprising a glucosidase and an endopeptidease activity. The endopeptidase present in the GBS phage lysis has a substrate specificity that has not been previously reported. The bifunctional GBS phage lysin is effective against groups A, B, C, E and G streptococci. Also described are methods of using the GBS phage lysin for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections.

  • Patent number: 5947535
Abstract: A latch mechanism which includes exterior and interior handle assemblies connected by a bar with a cammed surface such that the latch mechanism can be actuated by pushing, pulling, or turning a handle. Pushing or turning the exterior handle causes the bar to contact a cam follower on a receiver whose edge will rotate a lever to retract a bolt. Also, pulling or turning the interior handle produces the same result. Once the bolt is retracted, and the handle is released, a spring biases the bolt back to the extended position.

  • Patent number: 5531356
Abstract: This invention contains and arranges spherical objects such as golf balls in an orderly manner so that the contained objects can be easily accessed. The spherical objects can be dumped in, in quantity, yet removed simply and easily one at a time.

  • Patent number: 5516163
Abstract: A device for operating a linearly activated door latch including exterior and interior knob assemblies connected by a threaded rod. Pushing the exterior knob causes the rod to move towards the door and the cam on the rod will contact the cam follower on the receiver whose tab will rotate the lever to retract the bolt. Once the bolt is retracted and the door is open, a return spring wil bias the bolt back to the extended position.

  • Patent number: 4847795
Abstract: A system (20) for diagnosing defects in electronic assemblies is disclosed. The system (20) comprises a knowledge base (26) for storing information regarding the electronic assembly for receiving current test failure data regarding an electronic assembly (12). The system further comprises a pattern search section (36) for comparing current test failure data to information stored in the knowledge base (26). A voting section (40) is also provided for generating a recommended repair procedure to eliminate the defect in the electronic assembly (12). Finally, the system (20) further comprises a historical pattern generation section (46) which updates the knowledge base (26) with information regarding whether the recommended repair procedure eliminated the defect.

  • Patent number: 4645742
Abstract: The determination of fructosamine levels in at least part of a blood sample for use in detecting diabetes in patients or deciding treatment levels is effected by controlling the temperature and pH of the sample, adding a coloring agent such as a nitro-blue tetrazolium and after a first delay in time taking a first color measurment at a predetermined wavelength and after a second delay in time taking a second color measurement at the predetermined wavelength, then comparing any resultant change between the first and second color measurements with those of standard solutions, the selected timing delays, wavelength, coloring agent and pH conditions being such that any change of color in the coloring agent between the first and second color measurements is caused predominantly by the glucose in the sample that is reacted with an amine group of protein and has undergone a molecular rearrangement to form fructosamine and not materially by any non-specific reducing substance which may be present in the sample.

  • Patent number: 4566495
Abstract: A concentric walled conduit for incorporation within a tubular conduit string, and particularly for use in a subterranean well, is provided with one of the walls corrugated for substantially its entire length, preferably the inner tubular member. The annular space defined between the concentric tubular member contains a high heat resistant insulating material disposed around the outer surface of the inner tubular member. Each end of the annular space containing the insulating material is effectively sealed, and secured, such as by welds. The inner wall may be prestressed in tension for counteracting the forces which may be produced by a temperature differential between the tubular member walls of concentric conduit.

  • Patent number: 4467867
Abstract: A subsurface safety valve for use in subterranean oil and gas well which is actuated by pressure fluctuations in the tubing-casing annulus is disclosed. The safety valve assembly consists of a safety valve mounted in a packer which is actuated by a subsurface control located above the packer. Annulus pressure variations are controlled by a surface unit. The subsurface control utilizes a reference pressure chamber in which the pressure is initially adjustable to compensate for hydrostatic pressure in the annulus. Leakage of the gas in a dome pressure chamber in the subsurface control is impeded by the presence of a barrier fluid impervious to the passage of gas therethrough, with the barrier fluid being maintained at a higher pressure than the reference pressure in the dome charged chamber.

  • Patent number: 4433702
Abstract: An improved flapper valve for installation for example, in a tubing string of a subterranean well is pivotally movable about a horizontal axis into a blocking position relative to the vertical fluid flow path of the tubing string. The flapper valve is circular and is formed from a tubular segment in such a manner that, when in the open position, its concave surface is substantially tangentially coincident with a projection of the cylindrical surface formed by the inside of the valve seat, and its convex surface prescribes a much larger chordal distance in a containing circle concentric with the valve seat than would a flat surface of the same diameter. Thus, a valve is provided wherein for a given housing diameter, the passageway through the valve can be proportionately larger.
