  • Patent number: 11904428
Abstract: A blade sharpening and blade sharpness detection system for permitting blade sharpening and a determination of blade sharpness without mechanical contact with the blade cutting edge. An optical inspection unit inspects blade sharpness optically, and a blade positioning and guidance mechanism positions and guides the blade in relation to the optical inspection unit. An output display provides visual output of blade sharpness. The optical inspection unit, which can be a reflective optical sensor, and the blade positioning and guidance mechanism are retained by a pivotable support structure. The positioning and guidance mechanism can comprise first and second pairs of rotatable spheres, each such pair disposed in immediate juxtaposition to act as rolling supports for the blade. The entry of ambient light into the sharpness sensing volume can be prevented by resiliently deflectable light-blocking bodies retained to first and second sides of a sharpness inspection slot within the housing.

  • Publication number: 20230408303
Abstract: An end edge detector and method for sensing and indicating an end edge along a roll of material. A sensor retained by a housing detects the end edge and triggers an output signal indicative thereof. The sensor can be formed by a light source for producing an illuminated area on the roll of material in combination with a light radiation detector. Light received by the radiation detector is processed to produce an electronic control signal, and an output signal is triggered when the light received reaches a predetermined threshold electronic control signal indicative of light scattering by the end edge. Alternatively, the sensor can comprise a probe with a tip that extends from the housing for traveling along the surface of the roll of material. Deflection of the probe by contact with the end edge trips an electrical contact switch and triggers the output signal.

  • Publication number: 20160025841
Abstract: A dual polarization radar system is calibrated based on real-time data measurements, such as measured horizontal and vertical reflectivities, ZH and ZV. In this regard, the radar system analyzes the reflected power measurements to identify which measurements are associated with reflections from a respective spherical object. Using such measurements, the system determines a system differential reflectivity value, and combines such value with reflected power measurements for calibration. Since the calibration is based on real-time data measurements, the calibration process may run simultaneously with the collection of weather data. Thus, it is unnecessary to suspend weather monitoring activities in order to perform the calibration, and the calibration can be run as often as is desired without interfering with such weather monitoring activities. Further, the calibration process is immune to the weather events within range of the radar system.

  • Patent number: 8768766
Abstract: The system provides an automatically targeted network for text and graphical advertising based on cost-per-action bidded pricing, wherein actions comprise any of acquisitions, purchases, downloads, registrations, donations, clicks, and impressions. Contextual, search and behavioral relevance features are integrated to optimize ad selection for advertisers, who enter action objectives, associated bids, and creatives or catalog assets. The assets are automatically analyzed and stored, and ads are automatically constructed for catalog assets. When an ad request is received from a user terminal in regard to a publisher asset, e.g. a web page, the ad request is matched to a stored contextual analysis of at least a portion the publisher asset if available, and preferably to a profile associated with the user of the user terminal. The best advertisements are determined, based upon a predicted response, and are then served, i.e. displayed, at the user terminal, based upon available ad space.
