  • Patent number: 8170737
Abstract: A method of controlling a vehicle powertrain and a corresponding vehicle control system are provided that enable operation in an electric-only operating mode for an extended range by adjusting the threshold minimum state of charge of the battery, i.e., the state of charge of the battery at which the engine will be started to allow the battery charge to be replenished, in accordance with vehicle location. The engine will also be started when the vehicle is within a predetermined distance of a long-term parking location.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 30, 2009
Date of Patent: May 1, 2012
Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC
Inventors: Edward D. Tate, Jr., Charles A. Massoll, Anthony L. Posawatz, John R. Ferris, Madhusudan Raghavan, Damon R. Frisch, Partha P Goswami

  • Patent number: 5935866
Abstract: Inorganic oxides of substantially uniform particle size distribution are prepared by contacting aqueous solutions of an inorganic salt and an inorganic base across a porous membrane wherein the membrane contains a plurality of pores which allows for precipitation of a substantially mono-disbursed size inorganic oxide particles on one side of the membrane and precipitation of a salt of the corresponding base on a second side of the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5389377
Abstract: A liposome composition which comprises a substantially uniform sized inorganic core coated with an amphipathic organic compound and further coated with a second amphipathic vesicle forming lipid. Also disclosed are novel phenyl lipid compounds which serve as the amphipathic vesicle forming lipid and methods are described for delivering a drug for slow release into the blood stream, and for targeting a selected tissue or cells with the inorganic core liposome compositions.

  • Patent number: 5382468
Abstract: Subdomain metal or metal oxide particles covalently coupled to chemically reactive organic moieties and subsequently reacted together to form biodegradable magnetic microclusters are disclosed. The magnetic microcluster can be used as contrast agents in NMR imaging for the production of images suitable for use in diagnosis, for in vivo delivery and targeting of drugs, as in vivo, biodegradable agents for the sequestering of free metal ions in the treatment of metal driven disease.

  • Patent number: 5380028
Abstract: A torsion bar suspension system for a trailer that includes a suspension frame having a spindle at one end for rotatably carrying a wheel. The suspension frame is mounted to the trailer frame to pivot about an axis spaced from the wheel axis of rotation. A torsion bar is mounted to the trailer frame between the wheel end of the suspension frame and the suspension frame pivot axis. The torsion bar is operatively coupled to the suspension frame such that torque at the torsion bar resists pivoting of the suspension frame about its pivot axis. The torsion bar/suspension frame coupling comprises an arm of variable length to accommodate changing radius between the torsion bar and the suspension frame as the frame rotates about its pivot axis. The torsion bar and suspension frame are mountable and demountable to and from the trailer frame as an assembly. The suspension frame includes facility for adjusting height, camber and toe-in of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 5071076
Abstract: A novel method for producing magnetic microparticles from metallocenes is disclosed. The method involves combining an aqueous slurry of the metallocene and an aqueous slurry of a metal hydroxide and milling the slurries together. Fine magnetic particles are produced using the present method.
