Patent number: 6662731Abstract: A table includes a round table top defining an unobstructed open slot that extends inwardly about halfway from a perimeter of the table top. The slot is shaped to receive a freestanding article of furniture slid horizontally into the slot, such as a screen, a partition panel, a leg of another table, or the like. The table top is pivoted to the base by links that are mechanically moveable over-center to a locking position when the table top is moved to a use position. A handle is formed as part of one of the links to assist with the over-center movement. The base is adapted to nest against similar bases for compact storage, and includes two feet with low-height flat ends that lie close to a floor surface so that they do not objectionably interfere with mating furniture nor with a person's feet when using the table.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2001Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Assignee: Steelcase Development CorporationInventors: David S. Teppo, John R. Hamilton, Brett R. Kincaid, James D. Houda

Patent number: 6474665Abstract: A mobile pedestal includes a wheeled cabinet unit with a cabinet made from sheet metal, and a cushioned upholstery-covered top subassembly attached to a top of the wheeled cabinet unit. The top subassembly includes a flat housing made of a wood product and that is shaped to substantially cover the cabinet. The housing defines a pair of edge-located elongated cavities. A U-shaped handle with elongated legs extend into and slidably engage the cavities so that the handle is movable to an internal storage position in the cavities and to an extended angled use position. The legs have a turned-in end and the cavities are configured to engage the turned-in ends to retain the handle to the housing when the handle is in the extended use position, but further the legs are configured to permit the handle to rotate from a horizontal extended position to the angled use position when extended.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2000Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: Steelcase Development CorporationInventors: Liisa A. Fink, John R. Hamilton, Kevin B. Miller

Patent number: 6435634Abstract: An office furniture system includes a furniture unit, such as a binder bin or main shelf, mounted to a partition. A display shelf assembly is mounted to the furniture unit, and includes a movable shelf, a first bent-wire support fixedly attached to the furniture unit and slidingly attached to the shelf, and a second bent-wire support operably pivotally attached to the furniture unit and pivotally attached to the shelf. The first and second support members are configured to support the shelf through a range of motion between a substantially horizontal storage position and a vertically inclined display position. In one embodiment, the second support is operably attached to the furniture unit for both pivoting and sliding movement.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2001Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Steelcase Development CorporationInventors: Audrey K. Webb, John R. Hamilton, Michael W. Welsh, Scott M. Miller, Kevin B. Miller

Patent number: 5292340Abstract: A dual-chamber metabolic demand, rate adaptive pacemaker that automatically calibrates the correlation between a metabolic demand measurement and an appropriate metabolic demand pacing rate according to the true physiological needs of the body, as determined by a patient's sinus rate when the natural sinus rate is functioning in a reliable manner in the absence of cardiac arrhythmia.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1993Date of Patent: March 8, 1994Assignee: Telectronics Pacing Systems, Inc.Inventors: Peter A. Crosby, John R. Hamilton, Anthony J. Ujhazy

Patent number: 5224909Abstract: The invention is a bi-level exercise apparatus in which a user assumes a crawling position and then moves arm and leg receiving slides in a back and forth motion. The slides are attached to tracks that constrain the movement of the slides to a linear, horizontal path. The apparatus further includes a gear train assembly that provides resistance to the rearward movement of the slides but allows the slides to move in a forward direction substantially without resistance.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1992Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Inventor: John R. Hamilton

Patent number: 5085215Abstract: A rate-responsive dual-chamber pacemaker and pacing method for supporting the heart with electrical stimulation at a pacing rate driven by the heart's sinus node or, alternatively, by a sensor adapted to determine the patient's metabolic demand (a metabolic demand indicator). The pacemaker automatically selects between the indicated rates to determine the best pacing rate for appropriately satisfying metabolic demand at all times. The natural rate, driven by the sinus node, takes precedence over the metabolic indicator rate provided the natural rate meets a standard determined by the metabolic demand indicator rate. The pacemaker upper rate response mechanism allows atrioventricular synchrony at natural sinus rates ranging from low rates to high exercise rates, even up to the programmed maximum rate, but maintains ventricular rate stability during pathological atrial tachycardias by reverting to pacing in a rate-responsive VVI mode.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1990Date of Patent: February 4, 1992Assignee: Telectronics Pacing Systems, Inc.Inventors: Tibor A. Nappholz, Scott Swift, John R. Hamilton, Matthew J. Gani

Patent number: 4901725Abstract: A rate-responsive pacemaker whose rate control parameter is minute volume derived over a bipolar lead. An algorithm based on averaged samples and zero crossings provides enhanced accuracy. Sustained exercise at high pacing rates is possible.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1988Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Assignee: Telectronics N.V.Inventors: Tibor A. Nappholz, John R. Patent number: 4708144Abstract: An implantable pacemaker in which the sensitivity is automatically controlled. The peak value of each R wave is measured, and a long-term average is derived. The gain of the sense channel is adjusted automatically in accordance with the average of the measured peak values.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1986Date of Patent: November 24, 1987Assignee: Telectronics N.V.Inventors: John R. Hamilton, Robert H. Whigham
