Patent number: 5038523Abstract: This invention pertains to a rotary disk tool which utilizes pressurized water as the working fluid. When an operator engages a trigger on a novel control handle and valve assembly, pressurized seawater enters the rotary disk tool through the control handle and valve assembly into a seawater powered vane motor. The shaft of the seawater powered vane motor, is coupled to a drive gear. The drive gear, in turn, is in operative engagement with a driven pinion coupled to an output shaft which drives an abrasive disk. Seawater exhausted from the motor into a gear and pinion housing provides lubrication for the drive gear, driven pinion, and the bearings used with the gear and pinion. The seawater is then exhausted from the housing as a fan spray directed onto the back of the abrasive disk so as to reduce drag of the disk in water and to flush away loose material from the work surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1990Date of Patent: August 13, 1991Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Bruce Farber, Scott Barradas, David B. Patent number: 5024456Abstract: Hitch structure for towing first and second implements forwardly one behind the other in a transport position and in a side-by-side relationship in a field-working position. The hitch structure includes an elongated rear hitch pivotally connected to a rear corner of the first implement by a 180 degree horizontally folding hinge and rockable by a rear hydraulic cylinder between a transport position wherein the rear hitch connector for the second implement is centered behind the first implement, and a field-working position wherein the connector is offset to one side of the first implement. A fore-and-aft extending forward hitch includes an aft end pivotally connected to the first implement at a location offset to the side of the implement and a forward connecting end attached to a towing vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1989Date of Patent: June 18, 1991Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: Howard C. Patent number: 4832532Abstract: An apparatus for carrying by a diver while underwater that provides information useful for enabling the diver to expeditiously and safely work on submerged vessels without the danger of tapping into an explosive gas. The invention is particularly useful for finding liquid/gas boundary in a submerged vessel or the pressure of liquid or gas behind the wall of a vessel. A transmitting transducer provides a low frequency acoustic tone burst that is transmitted toward the hull of the ship. The reflected signal from the inner surface of the hull is received by a hydrophone and processed. Electronic circuit means, responsive to the received signal, processes the signal and computes the location of a liquid/gas interface or the presence of liquid or gas behind the hull. A display provides indications of the computed values.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1987Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: Senapati Nagabhusan, Larry J. Patent number: 4723787Abstract: A fore-and-aft extending transport hitch frame carried on a pair of ground wheels supports the innermost ends of a pair of end wheel wing drills and tows a trailing end wheel drill between the wing drills. The wing drills are connected to rearwardly angled upright pivot structures on the hitch frame by hinged bracket structure which causes the innermost ends of the wing drills to lift as the drills are pivoted forwardly toward a transport position. The forward end of the hitch frame is lifted to raise the outboard ends of the wing drills for transport. During planting operations the ground wheels effectively act as the inboard end wheels for the wing drills. The wing drills can rock vertically about the bracket structure hinge for good flexibility in the field-working position.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1986Date of Patent: February 9, 1988Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: Howard C. Hadley, Marvin L. Bigbee, John R. Myers

Patent number: 4609203Abstract: Three-point hitch structure for connecting an implement to a towing vehicle wherein the upper link is made variable by means of a hydraulic cylinder pinned to a plate to provide three pivot points. When the cylinder is retracted, the two components act as a fixed length link, with the middle pivot point maintained slightly off center with respect to the two outer pivot points by a stop member. When the cylinder is extended, the middle pivot moves away from the centerline joining the two outer pivot points to allow the overall length to either lengthen or shorten. The towed vehicle is therefore free to rock with respect to the hitch and includes gauge and stabilizing wheels to maintain the implement in proper relationship with the ground contour.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1985Date of Patent: September 2, 1986Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: Ronald M. Steilen, John R. Myers, Vernon E. Rettig

Patent number: 4433633Abstract: A controlled gas generator system is provided which has a reaction chamber, he reaction chamber having top and bottom ends. A bed of reactant material is disposed within the chamber intermediate its top and bottom ends. Liquids are located within the chamber, one of the liquids being nonreactive with the reactant. The liquids are dissimilar in specific gravity so that the liquids interface substantially along a cross-sectional plane of the chamber. With this arrangement, gas will be produced when the interfacial plane is vertically disposed on one side of the bed of reactant material, and gas will not be produced when the interfacial plane is vertically disposed on an opposite side of the bed of reactant material. Provision is made for selectively adjusting the vertical position of the interfacial plane above or below the bed of reactant material so that gas can be selectively generated.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1982Date of Patent: February 28, 1984Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Don W. Patent number: 4260172Abstract: An implement hitch for ganging multiple implements and towing them forwardly in a field-working position and endwise in a transport position. Trusses extend between hitch assemblies on the implements to provide endwise spacing of the implements. Stabilizers extend rearwardly from the trusses to the front of the implements to maintain the proper fore-and-aft alignment while allowing the implements to move up and down freely over uneven terrain. A main beam pivotally connected to an outermost truss serves as a common link between a towing vehicle and the hitch assembly for both the field-working and transport positions. Transport wheel assemblies mounted near the rear of the implements are provided for raising and lowering the implements to and from the transport position. The inner transport wheel assemblies include means for automatically connecting the adjacent corners of adjacent implements together as they are raised.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1979Date of Patent: April 7, 1981Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: Vernon E.
