Patent number: 6126610Abstract: A connector for connecting segments of one or more pneumatic tubes including a first member, a second member and a sealing element. The first member and second member are configured to interconnect with each other with the sealing element therebetween. The first member and second member each include at least one cooperating nipple which is insertable into a corresponding port formed through the sealing element. An airtight interference fit is formed between each port and the associated parts of the nipples inserted therein. The connector may also include a mechanism which identifies a type of sensor attached to one of the members to a monitor or other host device attached to the other member. Preferably, the connector also includes an alignment mechanism to ensure proper polarity of pluralities of tube segments associated with each of the first and second members. The connector may also include a keying structure for ensuring that only compatible devices are coupled thereby.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1997Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Novametrix Medical Systems, Inc.Inventors: David R. Patent number: 6098622Abstract: An airway valve for re-breathing, a ventilator circuit including same and a method of operating the airway valve. The airway valve includes a housing having first and second primary passages extending through the wall thereof and mutually directly communicating within the housing through a spring-biased valve assembly in the form of first and second diaphragms respectively and simultaneously movable in tandem within the housing into and out of contact with first and second valve seats on a valve body with which the first primary passage communicates. The valve assembly also controls diversion of air flow between the first primary passage and the second primary passage into and through an enlarged volume defined by a re-breathing loop external to the housing via first and second diversion passages, which also extend through the wall of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1998Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: NTC Technology Inc.Inventors: John R. Patent number: 6016627Abstract: A stackable mushroom tray having a plurality of curved ribs that extend near but do not contact sidewalls of the tray. Open corner receptacles are formed at each corner of the tray to receive a spacer. Support feet are formed within each corner of the tray to receive a top surface of the spacer. Raised corrugations are placed between the curved ribs with a plurality of holes between the raised corrugations. A lip is formed around the perimeter of the sidewalls. The tray is preferably made of a composite material such as a plastic and fibrous material that can be easily molded. The structure and configuration of the tray permits a relatively thin walled tray to be used, yet is extremely rigid and can be stacked easily while maintaining lateral stability. The tray can be easily manufactured, relatively inexpensively, provides additional growing space, and requires virtually no assembly, greatly simplifying mushroom growing.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1998Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Inventor: John R. Patent number: 5791401Abstract: A heat recovery device is disclosed which is adapted for use in the drain conduit of standard shower installations having a hot water line, a cold water line, means for mixing water from both lines to deliver water at a suitable temperature to a shower head, and a drain conduit for disposing of waste water passing through the shower installation, the heat recovery device transferring heat from the waste water to cold water flowing to the cold water line. The heat recovery device has a first conduit connected into the drain conduit of the shower installation, and a second conduit connected into the cold water line leading into the shower installation and either wrapped around or inserted within the first conduit so that the second conduit is in operative heat transfer relationship with warm waste water passing through the first conduit, so that the incoming cold water is preheated by heat recovered from the waste water and transferred to the cold water.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1996Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Inventor: John R. Patent number: 5794223Abstract: A method for controlling a tape motor using a microcontroller for feeding tape in correspondence to printing of an indeterminate length of printing on the tape by a print drum utilizes a sensor for indicating a tape condition which changes in accordance with the engagement of a printing portion of the print drum with the tape. An optical sensor and slotted disk provide signals indicative of the rotation of a motor shaft of the tape motor. At least first and second counters are provided for counting signal pulses from said optical sensor corresponding to the passage of slots during rotation of the motor. From these counts and the indication of printing by the print drum, the micro controller can develop the timing of control signals for controlling the motor in correspondence to the length of printing on the tape.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1994Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: Pitney Bowes Inc.Inventors: Dennis M. Patent number: 5727709Abstract: A thermally insulated floating beverage container holding device is disclosed which has an elongate body member having a peripheral side wall and a bottom wall closing the side wall to form a chamber for receiving a typical round bottle or aluminum can beverage container therein. The side wall has an upper portion that is substantially thicker than the remaining portion of the side wall to provide floation for the holding device, and a weight is suitably secured to the bottom of the holding device to proide sufficient stability that the device holds a beverage container upright both when immersed in water so that neither will beverage spill from the container nor will water get into the container to contaminate the beverage, and when the device is placed on a dry surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1996Date of Patent: March 17, 1998Inventor: John R.
