  • Patent number: 4761433
Abstract: Organic antimony compounds can be used to retard deactivation of urethane catalysts during storage of a B side formulation containing aromatic polyester polyols, used in the manufacture of rigid polyurethane foams.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 4, 1987
Date of Patent: August 2, 1988
    Assignee: Hercules Incorporated
Inventors: John R. Panchak, John M. Trowell
  • Patent number: 4239642
Abstract: The storage stability of otherwise unstable premix compositions for flame retardant rigid polyurethane foams containing in the premix a chlorinated polyether polyol and a tertiary amine catalyst, is enhanced by incorporation into the premix of a minor amount of a vinyl monomer. The preferred vinyl monomers employed are condensation products of acrylic or methacrylic acid with alcohols or amines. Such stabilization prevents premature deactivation of the tertiary amine catalysts contained in the premix.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 29, 1979
Date of Patent: December 16, 1980
Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
Inventors: Harry V. DePaul, John R. Panchak
  • Patent number: 4225453
Abstract: The storage stability of otherwise unstable premix compositions for flame retardant rigid polyurethane foams containing in the premix a chlorinated polyether polyol and a tertiary amine catalyst, is enhanced by incorporation into the premix a synergistic combination of an organic sulfur compound and an unsaturated carbon compound. The preferred sulfur compound is thiourea; among the preferred unsaturated carbon compounds are unsaturated terpenes such as allo-ocimene and unsaturated higher fatty acids such as tall oil fatty acids and mono-, di-, and trienic C.sub.18 acids.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 3, 1978
Date of Patent: September 30, 1980
Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
Inventors: Harry V. DePaul, David C. Fondots, Rocco L. Mascioli, John R. Panchak
  • Patent number: 4116879
Abstract: Catalysts having the following formula have been found to have unexpectedly high activity for the production of polyurethane and polyisocyanate resins: ##STR1## where: R, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are alkyls having 1 to 4 carbon atoms,R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, alkyls having 1 to 12 carbon atoms and aryls and aralkyls having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, andR.sub.5 is selected from the group consisting of H, an alkyl having 1 to 2 carbon atoms and an aryl and an aralkyl having 6 to 15 carbon atoms.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 10, 1976
Date of Patent: September 26, 1978
Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
Inventors: Ibrahim S. Bechara, Felix P. Carroll, Rocco L. Mascioli, John R. Panchak
  • Patent number: 3993652
Abstract: Catalysts having the following formula, prepared in the absence of water, are stable to heat and storage and show high activity in reactions involving organic isocyanates, such as in the production of polyurethane and polyisocyanurate resins: ##EQU1## wherein: A is a mono- or bicyclic tertiary amine having at least 4 carbon atoms in an azine ring,R.sup.1 is H or an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms,R.sup.2 is H or an alkyl or aryl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and.phi. is a phenyl group, which may be further substituted by one or more hydroxyl or alkyl groups.Typical compounds, for example, are those corresponding to the formula ##EQU2## wherein: R is H or methyl.
