The plug assembly includes a plug housing and a lever, where the lever includes gear teeth which cooperate with a tooth on the header in a rack and pinion fashion. The lever is locked to the plug housing when the lever is poised for the plug housing to be inserted into the header. A release member on the header releases the lever from the locked position allowing the lever to be rotated to the position where the lever gear teeth mesh with the header tooth, to draw the plug assembly into the header.

The lever-assist member is also locked in place by the interaction of the pivot-assist member and the corresponding latching structure of the connectors. The lever-assist member, when moved into the disconnection condition, has a projection which holds the cantilever beam arm of the latch in a position allowing the two connectors to be disconnected, which does not require the user to continue depressing the latch at the same time as rotating the pivot-assist member.

    Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes a plug having front end including a mating interface and a receptacle having an opening configured to receive the mating interface of the plug. A deflectable latch includes a beam having a front end secured with the front end of the plug housing and a rear, free-standing end which is biasable towards the plug to permit the plug and receptacle to be mated with one another. The latch includes first and second latching projections extending from opposite sides of the beam. First and second latch mating elements are positioned within the receptacle opening to securely engage the first and second latching projections when the plug and receptacle housings are fully mated with one another. The plug and receptacle include first and second mating keying features. One of the keying features is configured to prevent other plugs with mating interfaces of the same size from being inserted into the receptacle.

    Abstract: An electrical connector includes an upper block, a lower block, and a terminal position assurance (TPA) element provided with at least one of the upper and lower blocks. The upper block is snappably joined to the lower block along a first direction when aligned in a pre-latched relation with one another. The upper and lower blocks are moveable in a second direction transverse to the first direction from a pre-latched position to a final seated position. The upper block includes a side latch that engages a rib on the lower block when the upper and lower blocks are joined. A shroud on the lower block engages the upper block and a boss at the forward end of the upper block is received in a retention slot on the lower block to inhibit disengagement of the upper block from the lower block when the upper and lower blocks are in the final seated position. The lower block includes a contact cavity that has a terminal retention beam.

    Abstract: An electrical connector assembly (100) which includes electrical contacts (10) of the insulation displacement type, an inner housing (20), an outer housing (40), and a strain relief meter (50). The assembly (100) is assembled by first securely placing the electrical contacts (10) within the inner housing (20) and then inserting the inner housing (20) into the outer housing (40) so that the electrical contacts (10) can be terminated to wires by using the insulation displacement method of wire recitation. The inner housing (20) is fully inserted into outer housing (40), and is then in a fully latched position within the outer housing (40). Strain relief member (50) is then mounted to outer housing (40) and includes an abutment flange (55) for ensuring that the inner housing (20) has been fully inserted within outer housing (40).
