Abstract: The present invention to provides a force measuring device suitable for use in robotic applications, having a high degree of sensitivity, stiffness, compact size, and reasonable cost. The invention includes an inner plate, surrounded by an outer plate. The inner and outer plates are integrally connected by a plurality of strain sensing flexures, generally in the form of strain rings, on which strain sensing devices are mounted. Local loads measured by the strain rings are converted to global loads, which describe forces present between the inner and outer plates.
