  • Patent number: 8733436
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for diverting fluids either into or from a well are described. Some embodiments include a diverter conduit that is located in a bore of a tree. The invention relates especially but not exclusively to a diverter assembly connected to a wing branch of a tree. Some embodiments allow diversion of fluids out of a tree to a subsea processing apparatus followed by the return of at least some of these fluids to the tree for recovery. Alternative embodiments provide only one flowpath and do not include the return of any fluids to the tree. Some embodiments can be retro-fitted to existing trees, which can allow the performance of a new function without having to replacing the tree. Multiple diverter assembly embodiments are also described.

  • Publication number: 20140076160
Abstract: An air filtering system and method for self-cleaning the same is provided. The system has a plurality of air filters including a first filter and at least one neighboring filter. A blower fan pulls air through the filters. A plurality of compressed air injectors are provided adjacent the filters including a first injector and at least one neighboring injector. Self-cleaning is achieved while the blower fan is running by preforming several steps including activating the first injector to force compressed air into the first filter and discharge particulate from the first filter followed by deactivating the first injector. The steps further provide reactivating the first injector and simultaneously activating the neighboring injector while the discharged particulate is airborne to provide an air shield about the first filter and force the discharged particulate away from the first filter and the neighboring filter. These steps are repeated for each filter.

  • Publication number: 20130263844
Abstract: A solar collector comprises a solar absorbing tube comprising enclosure enclosing an absorbing section, comprising a radiation absorbing plate and a tube, containing a working fluid in thermal contact with the plate. The tube extends out of one end of the tube and connects with a condenser wherein the thermal transfer fluid when in a vapour phase communicates with a fluid to be heated within an end fitting. The condenser of a tube is inserted into a thermal pocket sealingly engaged with a gasket within the pipe receiving portion of the fitting, whereby heat transfer can take place between the condensers of the pipes and a fluid flowing via path in the fitting. The pocket is sealed against ingress of heat exchange fluid flowing through the fitting.

  • Patent number: 8457172
Abstract: A Bragg grating has a local reflection strength which varies with position along the length of the grating so as to generate a non-uniform wavelength reflection spectrum, enabling compensation for a non-uniform gain profile of the gain section of a tunable laser. In another aspect, a Bragg comb grating is modulated by an envelope function which can also compensate for a non-uniform gain profile. The comb grating may be a phase change grating, with the envelope function shape being controlled by the length between phase changes and/or size of the phase changes.

  • Publication number: 20120297741
Abstract: A work cell assembly such as welding cell assembly and a method for assembling the same is provided. The work cell has a perimeter wall including an upper wall edge defining an open top. A fluid filtration unit draws in fluid from the work cell and removes contaminants. A fluid moving device including an air blade assembly adjacent the upper wall edge and an inlet adjacent the upper wall edge and spaced downstream from the air blade assembly establish therebetween a sheet-like fluid barrier extending across the open top. The fluid barrier is defined by a continuous flow of fluid traveling across the open top for entraining the contaminant and creating a ceiling effect across the open top to prevent escape of the contaminant from the work cell through the open top. The fluid barrier has a narrow vertical extent to prevent disturbance of the fluid in the work cell.
