  • Patent number: 6964261
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for controlling a fuel injector. A fuel shot is injected during a zero fuel condition. A rail pressure drop corresponding to the fuel shot is determined. A change in engine speed corresponding to the fuel shot is determined. An adjustment to the fuel injection as a function of the rail pressure drop and the corresponding change in engine speed is determined.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 2003
Date of Patent: November 15, 2005
    Assignee: Perkins Engines Company Limited

  • Patent number: 6371407
Abstract: A mechanism and methods for directing the flow of exhaust gases associated with a V/STOL aircraft. A pair of constant area nozzles are associated with a plenum chamber that receives and contains exhaust gases. The nozzles are independently rotatable within circular exhaust openings in the plenum chamber to direct, or vector, exhaust exiting from the plenum chamber in preselected directions such as vertically downward or directions forward or aft of the vertical plane.

  • Patent number: 5809962
Abstract: A piston for an internal combustion engine includes an insert defining an air chamber opening into the combustion chamber. The insert is preformed to a desired configuration and the piston cast around the insert thus securing the insert within the structure of the piston. The insert may be located wholly within the piston or may have a flange part which extends over an outer surface of the piston.
