Publication number: 20210187711Abstract: A holding tool for use in holding a first portion of an item, such as a hydraulic coupling, in a static position, while a torque application tool applies torque and rotates a second portion of the item. The holding tool helps reduce twisting of the first portion relative to the second portion when torque is applied. The holding tool also communicates with a controller when the tool is in use. For example, the tool communicates with the controller in response to a user applying a force to the tool in a direction of the first portion the tool is engaged with. That force releases pressure on a switch that activates a communication signal for communication to the controller. This allows the controller to monitor whether the holding tool was used in conjunction with a torque wrench to tighten the coupling; thereby providing an error reducing function.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 4, 2021Publication date: June 24, 2021Applicant: Snap-on IncorporatedInventors: John Reynertson, Donald J. Reynertson, Paul E. Davis

Patent number: 8973476Abstract: A new ratchet wrench has a slide gear that is laterally enclosed within the head. Shoulders on the slide gear are curved and outwardly flanked by a single recess. The distance from the top of the shoulder to the base of the recess is no more than half the difference between the outside diameter and the root diameter of the teeth on the ratchet. Those teeth have essentially planar faces, top lands that traverse at least one quarter of the pitch, and bottom lands that extend continuously from the faces, have essentially constant radius, and traverse at least one quarter of the pitch. A pin projects out the back and enables a user to shift the wrench between clockwise and counterclockwise ratcheting. All cavities for the ratcheting assembly are recessed from the face in an arrangement that can be machined in a single set-up on a computer-controlled vertical mill.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2013Date of Patent: March 10, 2015Inventors: John Reynertson, Jr., Vladimir Kunin

Publication number: 20060248992Abstract: A digital torque wrench is disclosed having a transducer beam with a reduced thickness web therein. At least one strain gauge sensor is mounted to the internal web to measure the shearing stress within the web as the wrench is rotated. By using such a reduced thickness web, mounting the sensors in opposed orientations, mounting the transducer beam to the torque wrench handle using first and second longitudinal flanking pins, and providing the transducer beam in a tapered shape, the resulting measurement of the torque wrench is very accurate. Moreover, a rotational interface module with digital display is provided to facilitate reading of the display by the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 13, 2006Publication date: November 9, 2006Applicant: RYESON CORPORATIONInventor: John Reynertson

Patent number: 7089834Abstract: A torque wrench is disclosed having torque range indicators. The torque wrench includes a handle, a torquing tool, a mounting bar and a programmable interface module. At least one torque sensor is communicatively coupled to the interface module. The interface module includes an input device able to receive at least one predetermined torque value, a torque value indicator, a torque range indicator, and a controller. The torque value indicator, the torque sensor, and the torque range indicator are communicatively coupled to the controller, and the controller is programmed to activate the torque range indicator based on a torque range calculated by comparing a torque value received from the torque sensor to the at least one predetermined torque value.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2004Date of Patent: August 15, 2006Assignee: Ryeson CorporationInventors: John Reynertson, Jerome M. Publication number: 20050223856Abstract: A system for controlling torque related data is disclosed. The system may include one or more torque wrenches each having a first controller, and each being adapted to communicate with a second controller. Each torque wrench may further include a handle and a torquing tool. A torque sensor is disposed on each of the torque wrenches and is adapted to provide torque related data of a fastener to the first controller. The second controller is communicably coupled to the first controller and receives the torque data of the fastener.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2004Publication date: October 13, 2005Inventors: John Reynertson, Jerome Gauthier
